tonight is another episode of LOST. i think this might be the last one before the series finale. i'm pretty stoked, but a bit sad to see it all come to an end. ever since my friend frank introduced this series to me at college, i have been caught up in it's roller coaster style. there has never been a dull moment for me. (well, there was the start of season three...) to finally make it to the end, i think, is an achievement not many people and television shows get to have. let's just hope the writers don't pull some dumb ending from their butts...
skipping the heavy stuff, let's go back to that 90's sound with the band, Car Vs. Driver.
oh, how i wish i could have known these bands back during their time. i guess that's one of the good things about the internet. over the past five years i've been going through this heavy music collecting phase, and i don't see an end to it in the near future. it's more powerful than collecting pokemon and seeing bigfoot. the band, car vs. driver, were from atlanta, georgia, and played that awesome 90's style emo that i love so dearly now. they were very short lived, only lasting from 1993 to 1995, but that's the beauty of it all. as the phrase on their myspace page says, "this is the product of your time", and yes, they certainly were. after they broke up members went on to different projects, with two of them going on to the band, Chocolate Kiss, which i GREATLY challenge you to listen to. that band was amazing!!!
here is the small bio that drummer james joyce wrote about car vs. driver:
"Car vs. Driver began when I was 17 years old. By the time we played our final show, I was 19. This band was the music of my life during a period when people usually experience the greatest amount of freedom, which is what I think of whenever I listen to this music now. There were so many new experiences: living on our own, meeting new people, getting a new perspective on life. Our lifestyle in turn gave us a new perspective on expressing music, and we poured all of our energy and emotion into it. Music that now seems a world away music from a different life. Its hard to remember that everything about being in a band at that time was simply making a 7, buying the cheapest van you could find, and touring the country for the summer. There was no infrastructure to build your music around, which also removed its barriers. Instead of running our band like a corporation, we played peoples living rooms and basements, engaged in kickball tournaments, made record covers out of manila envelopes, slept on top of our van, cooked pasta, and played with some of the most amazing bands in the process. Bands that epitomized the time like Spirit Assembly, Policy of 3, Friction, Current, The Yah Mos, Assfactor 4, Frail, Hoover, Freemasonry, Scout, and Inkwell. The experience we had is something that could never be recreated, and I consider myself incredibly lucky to have been a part of that moment in time. Thank you Matt, Steve, and Jonathan for bringing this to me." James Joyce. August, 2004"
today you will find their entire discography here in two links for one package. it's an album called, The Completeist, and it contains all 39 songs they made during their time. try it out and enjoy!!! oh, and just for you all to know, the band is reuniting for a show called, This Is Our Song: Images/Relics/Notes From The 90s Atlanta DIY Scene. the date for it is, december 18th, 2010 at the wonder root gallery, atlanta, georgia. if near, go stop by and appreciate that local scene. laters...
