Mmm Hmm...

today was that day. i have reached my 25th year of living and to tell you the truth i honestly never thought i would reach that age. for some reason i have grown up never really dreaming about being older. i never pictured myself as a teenager and i never pictured myself as a young adult. maybe it comes from a childhood of pain and struggle or maybe it's the fact that i saw lots of movies where the depressing factor went through the roof. (*cough* Land Before Time *cough*)

i wasn't that good...

i thought the bronco was cooler because it was so awesome in The Goonies...

anyway, i feel much better today than i did the day before and deffinitely the day before that. i guess i now am in a certain period where things start to take shape as if it was legos and not duplos. because you know, duplos where for children and legos were for bigger kids... i just hope the legos fit good and make awesome shapes and patterns!!! you get it right???

to help you all get into something you might not have listened to, here is the band Team Sleep. it is the other band that Chino Moreno from the Deftones sings for. if you liked the softer more dream-pop songs that the tones put out then this is just right for you. its sexy, sleezy, druggy, and poppy. i love it so much and i still can't believe i missed them when they did that short winter tour back in 2007 and came here to oklahoma and played at the freekin' conservatory in november and that place only holds about 200 people or so and i was stuck in santa fe new mexico tryin' to hack my way through fiction and poetry classes... ugh, here is their self titled debut and the original demos that were scraped and then the myspace demos. enjoy!!!

I hope you all have a good day...

Infusion...

infusion in cooking is the mixing of serveral ingredients to make something new out of old. (at least thats what i think it is from watching Top Chef and Hell's Kitchen...) yes, right now i'm feelin' a little bit better than i was earlier, but not that much. it's already tuesday acording to the computer clock and i'm awake like always. does anybody read this blog besides the one person that i know who does??? (dumb question...)

i guess i'm speaking to only myself. anway, i write because i have to. i don't want to feel like i'm wasting some sort of talent that god gave me. besides, i spent four years in art school trying to get better at being a writer. for some reason i'm scared to write that big novel that i have been dreaming about for years. i don't know why that is, but i guess it comes from the fact that i have soooooooooooooo much stuff in my head and i can't quite grasp what to write down. i don't even know what point i want to make. i'm influenced by books like The Catcher in the Rye and The Brief Wonderous Life of Oscar Wao. if you don't know what those books are you might want to check em' out!!!

okay, enough of my guff fluff writing. here is the music. going back to the title and first paragraph, i like the idea of infusion. so here is a band that does just that. they are called Gogol Bordello and this is their breakout album Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike. this super group hails from new york city and i still remember the first and only time i saw them perform like it was just a few hours ago. back in 2007 i got the chance to finally go to Coachella valley, arts and music festival. (if you haven't gone you gotta go at least once...) the big draw for me was to see Rage Against the Machine for the first time ever. what i didn't know though was that a certain band was going to steel the entire weekend and show away from rage for me in a small tent on that first friday night.

Lead by the charasmatic frontman Eugene Hütz, this band, comprised of many eastern immigrants, blend gypsy, punk, and even dub music styles into it's own melting pot of pure freekin' awesomeness. you can't go wrong when jammin' tunes such as "sally" "not a crime" and the ever popular "start wearing purple". trivia fact: the independent film Wristcutters: a Love Story has a secondary character that is directly intact with eugene's own crazy persona.

so how did that tent show at coachella go??? well eugene came out with just his acoustic and then said "hi, we are gogol bordello and we are gonna be your new f****** friends!!!" then he went immediately into the song "sally" and tore the entire place up. it was like a bomb exploded. the entire crowd was eating everybit of it. i don't know if it came from the fact that all the people there came to coachella and were just stoked, or if the band itself were just that good, but man o' man, it was something truly special that night. to this day it ranks up there with my very first concert and the first time i got to see the Deftones. i suggest you check these guys out for yourself to see if i'm right. (i know i am...)

Start wearing purple...

Late Night Tales...

it's late once again. i have nothing to say. i just wanted to post something i guess.

i missed the day. literally missed the entire day. now it's night time and i have nothing. ugh... i really hate myself at the moment. sheesh...

well here you go. the music is a band called Q And Not U. this is their popular album that was released on dischord records in 2000 titled No Kill No Beep Beep. it's dance punk with a mix of
emo/indie styles. it's totally opposite of what i'm feelin' right now so that's why i'm posting it...

tomarrow is monday and then there will be tuesday and then wednesday which is the 30th of september. i'm goin to be 25...

And the cat turned to smoke...

chaotic friday. all day i slept. i can't believe i did that...i'm so mad at myself. (not really) i guess all this sleep comes from depression. i don't know. i just don't like doing that. well, it's not like i had much to do anyway. i mean i could have gone to a concert tonight, but i slept instead...

i need something to wake me up. how about some screamo??? here is the band Orchid. very crazy fast to the point of grindcore levels, but with much emotion and thought out lyrics that spread out across many levels with references to nietzsche and european critical theory among others.

here are their full length ablums. Chaos is Me, Dance Tonight! Revolution Tomarrow!, Gatefold, and Totality. the last is a compilation of sorts that contains most of their singles and split materials.

we smiled and said
"I'll see you this summer."

but we know that it was over.
That's just what you say to someone
who's dying.
that's just what you say.
This is to us.
our hands fit, at least for a while.
I miss the face, I miss the taste
I'm sorry about it all...

We are the sons of no one...

last night i got to see the wizard of oz for the first time in theaters. it was presented in high definition and only showing for one day. it was a good time and really fun. i sat there laughing at the movie and thinking of all those naughty types of jokes that i could poke at. after a while though, i began to think that it wasn't as funny as i originally thought. yes the movie is a bit old and some of the things it does would be talked about and made fun of by today's ugly standards, but at the time when it came out it was all in good fun and not meant to be any more than that. i hadn't seen the movie in ages, so watching and listening to the music was a real treat. at one point though i wished i brought my mp3 player so i could jam Darkside Of the Moon to see if it really fits with the movie like so many have said. ha ha...

well tonight is the big concert. The Black Crows are playing at the state fair arena and i'm excited about it. to celebrate tonights concert i want you to check out these guys. they were a great punk/rock/jam/bar band that really lived up to their reputation as being bad boys. they were called The Replacements.

lead singer paul westerburg wrote some quality songs and could sing with fierce fire and emotional passion. what you are getting here are four albums. first is Let it Be followed by Tim and then there is Pleased to Meet Me and finally a real treat is the live concert bootleg from oklahoma city titled The Shit Hits The Fans. originally recorded on cassette the year i was born, (1984...) this bootleg captures the raw power of the band live. it's super sloppy and actually quite fun. like a lot of their live shows, this bootleg consists of mostly covers and only a few of their own songs, so this automatically makes it a good collection for any "mats" fan because when the band would play drunk you knew that it was magic...lol

Explosions off in the distance...

what is the longest you have ever slept??? i think i have gone about two and a half days of full sleep before i woke up. i can't remember why, but i think i took some meds and that caused it to happen. (must have been good meds!!!) anyway, when you sleep for so long you wake up feeling groggy and not quite all there. your balance is shifted and you get that jet-lag feeling. it was during that long slumber that i didn't eat. my stomach immediately started hurting.

what does that paragraph have to do with this post??? absolutely nothing. maybe it's just because i have slept all day and have slept much longer than i normally do. i feel sort of bad that i wasted an entire day, but oh well...

now this band is a great one. they have been getting bigger and bigger with each new album. they play all over the world often at huge festivals and events. they were even on terrible shows
like The OC and other such trash. they are called Death Cab for Cutie.

the three albums here are, like i always say, my favorites. first is The Photo Album, second is Transatlanticism, and third is their major label debut and breakthrough album Plans. singer Ben Gibbard is (in my opinion) one of the best songwriters to come along in a long time. his lyrics can really get down on a personal level and anybody can connect with. the thing is, i don't really find any doubt in his songs. it's like he's willing to bear it all just for you. be sure to check out his other project The Postal Service. well that might be for another post because the postal service are awesome. yeah, another post...

And i don't feel any different
The clanking of crystal
Explosions off in the distance (in the distance)
So this is the new year
And I have no resolutions
For self assigned penance
For problems with easy solutions
So everybody put your best suit or dress on
Let's make believe that we are wealthy for just this once
Lighting firecrackers off on the front lawn
As thirty dialogs bleed into one
I wish the world was flat like the old days
Then i could travel just by folding a map
No more airplanes, or speed trains, or freeways
There'd be no distance that could hold us back
There'd be no distance that could hold us back
So this is the new year

Take me to the darklands...

my dog escaped from the backyard. after i got back from the post office i found him waiting on the porch. he started to run away so i went after him and grabbed his collar to bring him back. he bit me several times. ugh... still he's really sweet and i don't have any hard feelings towards him. also he stinks to high heaven. i gave him a bath (sprayed him with the hose) and trimmed some of the clumps of fur off his body. he bit me a few more times during that ordeal...

for the music i want you all to check out The Jesus and Mary Chain. i discovered them the first time i watched the movie Lost in Translation. the song "just like honey" was quite good and reminded me of My Bloody Valentine. lots of feedback and soft singing come with this band. it's their trademark.

what i have here are two albums that i consider my favorites. first is their wonderful debut lp Psychocandy and then their second album titled Darklands. with their second album came a little change in sound. sure you still get the depressive singing from Jim Reid and the guitar feedback of his brother William Reid, but the change came in the song structure itself. this time the band went for a more "poppy" sound and less squeal and angst. songs like "darklands" "only happy when it rains" and "april skies" showed that the band was more than just noise and punk attituted. so with that i hope you enjoy and please be sure to turn the volume way up when you listen to these guys!!!

Im going to the darklands
To talk in rhyme
With my chaotic soul
As sure as life means nothing
And all things end in nothing
And heaven I think
Is too close to hell
I want to move I want to go
I want to go
Oh something wont let me
Go to the place
Where the darklands are
And I awake from dreams
To a scary world of screams
And heaven I think
Is too close to hell
I want to move I want to go
I want to go
Take me to the dark
Oh God I get down on my knees
And I feel like I could die
By the river of disease
And I feel that Im dying
And Im dying
Im down on my knees
Oh Im down
I want to go I want to stay
I want to stay

Love Like Blood...

it's late once again. i'm tired and need to go to sleep. it's at times like this when i begin to fade away and think too much...

here, listen to these guys. the are called Killing Joke. if you like nu-wave and post-punk plus early industrial music then these guys are for you. here are my favorite albums by them. Killing Joke (1980), Night Time, and the self titled Killing Joke (2003). the music is dark and depressing like Joy Division, but also danceable and hard hitting. dave grohl was a huge fan and actually drummed on the 2003 self titled album. enjoy!!!

I don't care were just far away...

it's now saturday but i'm still awake. since i have been doing nothing but reading angry comments to me from some youtube people and jammin' some tunes, i have come to the decision to post on the blog. this is one i have been waiting for for a long time and now that i'm here i'm ready to begin. (it's all about the music.)

okay, so here is the band Deftones. i'm a passionate person and there are few muscial acts that i get passionate about. many people say that so and so are their favorite band and that's okay, but do they really mean that??? are most of those people old enough to really decide what artist is their favorite? do they even listen to that artist today??? my dad often tells me that Led Zeppelin is his favorite band and i believe him. he got to see them in their glory days when he was a teenager and to this day he still jams them often.

what i'm gettin' at is i have a band like that. the deftones are that band. i truly believe myself when i say that they are my favorite band. i still listen to them today and will listen to them when i'm old and zombies or aliens take over the planet.

i don't know what it was that made me like them so much back then, but during my high school years this band litterally GOT ME THROUGH the tough times and terrible life that i had. yes, some of the worst times of my life were back when i was a teenager. i try my best to not dwell on them, but i'm not that strong when it comes to that. but despite those harsh moments, the deftones provided an outlet for me to escape.

it was their third album White Pony that made me a fan. i was up really late one night back in 2001 and watching MxTxVx when the video for the song "digital bath" came on. it was all shot in black and white and had this dream-pop elegance to it. now i freekin' love the shoegaze/dream-pop genre and when lead singer Chino Moreno hit those high notes i was filled with extacy and warmth. this man knows how to sing!!! he reminded me of Morrisey and a bit of Bono. (thats not a bad thing)

okay, so i got into them real heavy and went and picked up all their albums they had to date at that time which was three. my last year of high school they released their fourth album which was their self titled effort. after that not much happened for a long time. in 2006 they finally released their fifth album Saturday Night Wrist. this album became their defining moment for me. this one album showcased the bands entire creative output and all of their influences came to fruition. that year i got to see them in denver and to this day that was one of the best experiences of my life. i actually had my "emo" moment. i was litterally in tears. i just couldn't believe it. i was seein' my favorite band live for the first time!!! the songs they played shot me back in time and reminded me of all the stuff i went through during my teen years. it was almost like a timewarp. i have never had that type of experience again. (i don't even think drugs could do it...)

so here you go. all five of their albums minus their bootlegs and rarities. Adrenaline, Around the Fur, White Pony, Deftones, and Saturday Night Wrist. Just like Radiohead (my second favorite band) deftones fans are very passionate about the band and they know just how great these guys are. it's funny, but when i met the fans at the future deftones concerts i went to, you could really see how much they loved this band. there was a special energy flowing through the crowds and even though there were douchebags flipping them off and yelling at them, the fans didn't care. it was just them and the band. connecting together and sharing a moment. what else could you want???

I climbed your arms
then you pulled away
a new cavity moved into
my heart today
the more she sings
the more it seems
that now I'm through
now I'm through
with the new you
I drove you home then
you moved away
new cavity moved into
my heart today
the more i scream
the more it seems now I'm through
now I'm through
with the new you
new you

My have the years of our youth passed on...

my dad is gonna take me to see The Black Crows at the state fair on the 24th. this is gonna be totally awesome. for once i just want some straight up no bs rock and roll. the last time we both went to a concert was back in 2003. we saw Pearl Jam and that was really cool. i think this is will be just as great if not better.

since i'm in a rock n' roll mood, i want to post some rock music. now this band is deep in punk roots, but they are also a bit soul and a bit blues too. they are called The Gaslight Anthem and over the past year or two they have blown up bigger than the white house did in the movie independance day.

here is their entire discography. you get their two full lengths Sink or Swim and The 59 Sound, and also their ep titled The Senior and The Queen. check these guys out and go see them on their current tour if it's near your area. i know for sure you will not be dissapointed. get into them now before everybody and their dog does because these guys are on the edge and about to launch off into the stratosphere.

Carrot King...

here is a fantastic and funny website for you to go check out. http://www.yourscenesucks.com/ go to this place to see yourself and all your friends. i really mean that. this place pretty much has your scene or at least people you have "seen" in public to a 't'. i think i resemble the skrams revivalist and the the post-rocker. i also have a lot of the org.core punker qualities as well. ha ha (just not the tatoos and beard...)

okay this band is indie rock 101. here is Neutral Milk Hotel and the famous album In the Aeroplane Over The Sea. jam this and tell all your friends about it. in the indie music world there are many bands that hold the high distinction of indie rock 101. this is deffinitely one of them.

And one day we will die
And our ashes will fly from the aeroplane over the sea
But for now we are young
Let us lay in the sun
And count every beautiful thing we can see
Love to be
In the arms of all I'm keeping here with me, me

There is a light that never goes out...

well i thought that one more post for tonight would be just fine. i'm currently waiting to watch a new episode of Top Chef, so as i wait i just want to write for a moment. the state fair starts this week and i'm gettin' more and more excited each day. most people don't think that much about the oklahoma state fair because it has dropped in worth over the past few years, but that's not stopping me from wanting to go. as a kid my parents took me all the time and i distinctly remember carnival games costing just a buck a piece. also the prizes were big...anyway i want to go and eat some awesome food. the atmosphere sometimes gets crazy here. i remember seeing lots of fights happen, but as i got older those things just became funny. lol

okay, so this band needs no introduction. led by the great morrisey and the guitar hooks of johnny marr, The Smiths paved the way for brit-pop in the 80's and to this day hold a major influence on many artists that play any sort of music (for the most part).

morrisey with his heart on his sleeve lyrics and marr with his unique plucking stand out amongst the crowd. you can hum and dance to just about anything they did. here for you is their discography. Louder Than Bombs, The Smiths, Meat is Murder, The Queen is Dead, and Strangeways, Here We Come.

To die by you side would be a heavenly way to die...

Absolutely Cuckoo...

i had to tell a friend some bad news today, and i feel terrible because of it. for some reason, our times just aren't mixing well. we seem to be at different ends of the spectrum and while it's okay, it can be a bit discouraging. some day we will get together and have a great time for sure. i know it!!!

since i'm a little sad i thought of this music post with great feelings. i want to post something that anybody can relate to and it's something i definitely do. i remember asking my mother for this triple album for my b-day a few years ago when i saw it at my local indie record store guestroom records. they held it for me and my mom picked it up after work. it was a real treat. the band is called The Magnetic Fields and this is their famous triple album 69 Love Songs.

i am a romantic at heart and this was just right for me to get wrapped up in. Stephin Merritt is a fantastic lyricist and his voice is deep and slightly resembles Ian Curtis or Jim Morrison. i first heard this band on the popular and freekin' funny children's show The Adventures of Pete and Pete. yeah, that show was ahead of its time. anyway, some of the songs played on that show were from these albums. so with that i hope you dig deep and find those few songs from this massive collection and fall in love.

Don't fall in love with me yet
We only recently met
True I'm in love with you but
you might decide I'm a nut
Give me a week or two to
go absolutely cuckoo
then, when you see your error,
then, you can flee in terror
like everybody else does
I only tell you this cause
I'm easy to get rid of
but not if you fall in love
Know now that I'm on the make
and if you make a mistake
my heart will certainly break
I'll have to jump in a lake
and all my friends will blame you
There's no telling what they'll do
It's only fair to tell you
I'm absolutely cuckoo

What's the score...

i'm doing another post for today. i'm also having breakfast for dinner, or maybe some leftover pizza. i don't know...oh, here is a pic of my dog. his name is chewbacca. i use to call him chewy when he was a puppy, but he evolved into the walking carpet now named chewbacca...

he's a good dog. a bit fumby, but sweet.

i was just thinking about music like i always do and then this band popped into my head. i'm real excited to tell you all about them!!! they were called Jawbreaker and man o' man did they tear it up when they were around.

i wish i was into their music back then because just like so many people these days, i got into them way after they came and went. but oh well...it's okay. we still have the music to jam and get lost with. take these guys with you on a road trip or better yet, listen to them when the time is not right. when you are in whatever sort of mood you are currently in. they just might throw you for a loop and totally change your life!! right here you get two of their albums. 24 Hour Revenge Therapy and the fan favorite in many circles, Dear You. i hope you enjoy and take a breather for once in your life!!! listen to the song "boxar" and remember older days. eat a ninja turtle hot pie and play on your fat grey gameboy!!! take a load off and i'll shut up...

enjoy life and enjoy the music in it because not all music is bad...
