Calmer, More Smoothly...

today was a good time at church. i got there late, but made it just in time for things to start. i felt happy to be back since i've missed the past three sundays. seeing friends and old one's was reassuring of how great my church family is. i'm not going to keep writing here because i want to get back to my sequin work, but just one more thought before i leave here today. if you happen to wonder why i post the things that i do on here, and then come back with a statement like today's, i apologize for the confusion. i'm often confused myself as to what my whole point is and what the heck i'm doing most of the time. one easy thing to say is that i really REALLY love music. the other is simply, "i do not know..."

let's keep things a bit easy today with some more calmer music. here is an artist who goes by the name, Iron & Wine.

the music here is folk rock/lo-fi sounding, but with very heartfelt emotion and simplicity throughout. this is the stuff of indie rock god status and samuel beam happens to have that down pat. want a better definition on those subjects??? go to this very funny site and click on the "indie jesus" character icon. http://www.yourscenesucks.com/ seriously... wow...

anyway, the music that this guy makes is really incredible and i can't help but think of Nick Drake and Leonard Cohen when i hear it. samuel beam is an american and currently lives near austin, texas with his wife and kids. he's released several full lengths and tons of ep's. he got noticed quickly for covering the song, "such great heights" by The Postal Service, back when it was then unreleased in 2002. a few years later he got more notice when he was included on the Garden State soundtrack and then even more since those disgusting Twilight kids have gotten a hold of him for their terrible franchise. despite this, the music of iron & wine is gold and you can't help but float along with it.

today i'm only posting two releases from the dude. it's his first two full length albums starting with, The Creek Drank the Cradle and then Our Endless Numbered Days. gives these a listen on maybe a sad and lonely day, or maybe during a peaceful walk through the woods or a nap in a grassy field. enjoy...

She says "wake up, it's no use pretending"
I'll keep stealing, breathing her.
Birds are leaving over autumn's ending
One of us will die inside these arms
Eyes wide open, naked as we came
One will spread our ashes 'round the yard

She says "If I leave before you, darling
Don't you waste me in the ground"
I lay smiling like our sleeping children
One of us will die inside these arms
Eyes wide open, naked as we came
One will spread our ashes round the yard

  1. "The Shepperd's Dog" has been one of my great discovers during 2010. The year is over, but still I can't stop listening to it.

In a few days (Jan 25th) a new album called "Kiss each other clean"will be released. Let's see what's to come...

Regards, and congrats for your blog
