yeah, i didn't got to Municipal Waste last night, but that's okay. instead, i dove into a new comic books series for myself called, Scott Pilgrim. this six volume graphic novel series is made by artist, bryan lee o'malley who is from canada. now, i know i'm just getting my feet wet and considered a noob with this series since i just saw the trailer for the live action movie, but oh man!!! this series is just what i've been looking for!!! it contains all the aspects that i remember from the age of 23 (literally!!!) and somehow, i connect with it better than most recent findings.
oh, and about that movie. it's coming out on august 13th, and it stars micheal cera and elizabeth winstead who looks really awesome in pink hair. i don't know, but for some reason this silly series and movie has got my attention BIG TIME. the movie is also directed by edgar wright who has made a few little things like, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and one of my favorite television shows of all time, Spaced. yeah, so you know this is in the right hands. judging by the trailer, it looks freakishly crazy, but with a sense of heart and drama that is right up there with other goofy things like, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Dragon Ball Z. it's a weird mix of a little bit of everything, but i like those mash ups sometimes. just watch the trailer below to see for yourself!!!
for some other stuff i guess i'll mention some music right quick. you know how i like the 90's so much right??? well here's something to rock your socks off!!! i think you all will recognize this group because they were EVERYWHERE during their moment of shining. yep yep yep, here are the Sneaker Pimps.
i am not ashamed at all for liking these guys (and girl!!!). this trio made some really amazing trip-hop tunes on their stylistic debut album, Becoming X. the story of sneaker pimps goes like this: they form in 1994 in hartlepool, united kingdom with founding members, chris corner and liam howe who recruited singer kelli dayton to finish the group. shortly after this they begin creating music which eventually leads to the their debut album. the album became a huge hit with singles like, "spin spin sugar", "tesko suicide" and of course, "six underground" getting regular airplay around the globe. then after all was settling down the began making demo's for the followup album, but with corner doing more lead vocals. right here is when the band made a HUGE mistake. they asked kelli dayton to leave the group, citing their fear of being lumped with the then fad of trip-hop. (trip-hop, to me, was never a fad because the music is very powerful and has stood the test of time. yes, it's a total 90's thing, but those artists who made the music are still around and very much respected.) oh, and the group broke up in 2003...
the debate as to whether or not the decision to oust kelli dayton will forever be talked about, but for now we have the music as a reminder of a time when things were simple, yet full of wonder. (for us 90's people...) whenever i hear this groups music, i can't help but remember my time during the 90's and all the things i was up to. i also remember the movie, Can't Hardly Wait, and the scene where they play the sneaker pimps and jennifer love hewitt walks in all slow like. (i had a huge crush on her back then...)
so here is the music, or album. yeah, just the one album i've already mentioned will be on here today. nothing against their other works, but i simply do not like them. this is a legit album of catchy and sexy songs. you will instantly fall in love with the stuff on here. opener "low place like home" will get your tongue wet and keep you wanting more and more. try it out and see if you can enjoy a little bit of nostalgia!!! dig it...
