i'm about to go swimming at my other grandma's apartment and i want to try and beat the rush hour traffic before i possibly get there, so i really need to make this one short today. uh, well, i don't have much to say except that it's FREEKIN' HOT in oklahoma right now. a guess a good swim will suffice.
yeah, this won't be a short one... anyway, over the last few days and going on many years, i was searching for this song by a band from a soda commercial. as it turns out, after asking the wonderful people at the orgsummit, it was the band, MxPx. yep, those totally awesome christian pop punkers. you know who we are going to talk about then huh???
the band hails from bremerton, washington and were originally known as magnified plaid, because their original guitarist, andy husted, was obsessed with the style. after seeing the bands name shorted to M.P. by the handwriting of drummer yuri yuley, periods appeared as "X"'s, and since he made up the show posters for the band, the four-letter moniker stuck. oh, and the rest of the cast is tom wisniewski on guitar and lead singer mike herrera on bass.
the band started in 1992 when they were all still in high school and around the ages of 15. they quickly drew attention and signed with christian label, Tooth and Nail. their first album, titled, Pokinatcha was released in 1994 and resembled the hardcore/skate/punk style of southern california bands like, and Descendants, NOFX, Black Flag, The Adolescents, Circle Jerks and Bad Religion.
i got to see these nice guys only once and that was back in 2005 at warped tour. i was pretty far away, but they could be heard and it was nice to be taken back to my early days of punk rock when these bands were at the very top and all this nonsense emo/screamo/crunk-core crap wasn't stinking the atmosphere. (you know i like the good emo/screamo right???) the kids who were there seemed into it, but you could tell that they weren't connecting with the audience like they used to. different times, different generation i guess...
so for you all to enjoy, i believe this is the ENTIRE discography, minus a few 7 inches and maybe a compilation or two. okay, so i'm going to blaze through this in order of first to last, and when i come to something a little bit more profound, i'll stop and mention my opinion. right, so we first start with the debut album, Pokinatcha, then move to the album Teenage Politics and then the ep, On the Cover. next we have the excellent album, Life in General, which is one of my personal faves, followed by the ep Chick Magnet, and the ep Move To Bremerton. after that we have the Small Town Minds ep, then the b-sides album, Let it Happen. finally we come to their major label debut, Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo. this is hands down, my all time favorite mxpx album. it's just a solid effort from start to end. continuing this long process we come to the live album called, At the Show, then the ep titled, Broken Bones. and after a long time coming, we have another full length and it's called, The Ever Passing Moment. this is followed by The Renaissance ep as well. a few more years passes until we came to their last major label album titled, Before Everything and After. this has recently become one of my favorites from the band and it contained that song that had been stuck in my head for many many years. when the dust settled, mxpx went back to the indie labels and released the AC/EP and then the full length album Panic. anther b-sides album called, Let's Rock was released and then the band made the jump back to tooth and nail records and released the album, Secret Weapon which was a return to form for the band. and FINALLY in last place is their second covers album titled, On the Cover II and then the Left Coast Punk ep. i think that's all of them. if i missed something i'm sorry, but hey, it's my blog and i need to get going. so pppppfffffftttttt...

Am I the one that's going crazy
I'm so tired of masquerading
I pretend to be so well adjusted
maybe it's just me and I'm disgusted
I need a room in a mental penitentiary
so lock me up with maximum security
the doctors say that they don't know whats wrong with me
so strap me down it's time for my lobotomy
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah Yeah yeah (yeah yeah yeah)
The doctors say that I'll be getting out real soon
The doctors say that I've been making big breakthroughs
One little minute seems to last a lifetime
Like staring at the ceiling even though you're blind
We all pretend to be so complicated
you and me just maybe dislocated (dislocated)
I need a room in a mental penitentiary
so lock me up with maximum security
the doctors say that they don't know whats wrong with me
so strap me down its time for my lobotomy
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah Yeah yeah (yeah yeah yeah yeah)
The doctors say that I'll be getting out real soon
The doctors say that I've been making big breakthroughs
The doctors say
The doctors say that I'm okay
The doctors changed their minds
and now I'm here to stay
Sorry baby
I'm not crazy
pardon a me baby
yo no soy loco
The doctors say that I'll be getting out real soon
The doctors say that I've been making big breakthroughs
The doctors say that I'm not crazy after all
The doctors say take two of these and give me a call
Get up!
