going back to the past, here's some more proto-punk from the late 70's, courtesy of The Modern Lovers.

for fans of The Velvet Underground, The Stooges, Television, Blondie, New York Dolls and Richard Hell and the Voidoids among others, the modern lovers started in 1970 and ended in 1974. they would latter reunite, but eh. they hailed from natick, massachusetts and are considered one of the most inspirational of the early punk/post-punk/nu-wave groups from the late 70's. the band was led by lead singer jonathan richman whom you all might recognize as the dude with the guitar who sang in sporadic moments in the movie, There's Something About Mary. (good flick!!!) yep, that guy was in this band and they were freekin' awesome. over the course of the bands short career, many members filtered in and out and some even went on to be in other notable acts like The Cars and Talking Heads.
there is really only one album to post by them here. it's their self titled debut and number 381 in Rolling Stones Top 500 Greatest Albums Ever Made. every track on here is amazing and it's all worth a listen. it's definitely a summertime album, so give it a shot and you might totally dig it!!!
