I thought i saw you in my sleep...

what a week it's been so far. to start off, monday night i drove down to denton, texas and got to see Envy, La Dispute, Touché Amoré and a newer band called, And So I Watch You From Afar, tear up at a small rehersal studio called, Rubbergloves. it was a fantastic night, totaled out by the impressive technical aspects of the musicians and the people who came to see the spectacle. i left feeling very tired, but happy and in awe of the great performances i witnessed.

tuesday came and with that, a very sleepy schuyler. all wasn't so bad, what, with a friendly smile from a fellow co-worker who is cute, and an awesome lunch at buffalo wild wings. but, it wouldn't be a normal day if something hadn't happened in order to ruin the good mood. that ruiner was my lack of focus on keeping the files up to date and basically, not giving a crap about my job. ugh, oh how i hate feeling like a looser. this is a good job and i'm not doing it very well. it's not like the work is terribly hard or something, no!!! it's just tedious and i sit there staring at it, wondering what i want to do with my life, or how much longer can i hold out and not get sick in the bathroom... yeah, it's a bit like that. my writing is the only thing giving me hope. i use it to make myself feel better and also to try and pursue my personal goals.

i took today off in order to go to ada once again and see my doctors. this time it wasn't as bad as the last checkup, but maybe that's because i didn't do any blood work. so, after leaving ada, i passed through paul's valley like usual, but this time i took a detour and stopped to check out the action figure museum. it was awesome and very nostalgic. they had a wonderful collection of all types of action figures, ranging from the 1940's to present day. my favorite section wasn't really about the toys, but instead focused on cartoonist's and comic book artists from oklahoma. it was awesome to see some actual hand drawn panels from artists like, chester gould (Dick Tracy), russell myers (Broom Hilda) and bill mauldin (Willie & Joe). overall, it was a humbling experience that only reminded me of my young past and all the things i used to do and still want.

oh, and tomorrow night is the live halloween rifftrax special. this time the guys are going to be riffing on the horror movie classic, The House on Haunted Hill. spooky good times will be had!!!

okay, so i had a little help with the music selection since i just saw these guys monday. i've mentioned them before on here, so now it's finally their time. let's check out the band, La Dispute.

there was an amazing amount of energy this past monday night at the texas show. all the bands that played were on point and seemed very excited and energetic when playing. once la dispute came on stage, the crowd unleashed the most frantic fandom of the night. la dispute are one of the more recent screamo/skrams/emo bands to come along and play with heartfelt passion and a great nod to the past. they, along with acts like Touché Amoré, Ampere, Comadre, Daniel Striped Tiger and Pianos Become the Teeth, have been traveling and playing all over with a focus on great music and emotional response. it's a great remembrance of the bands long gone that started and inspired this scene and you can hear and feel it in their music.

la dispute are from grand rapids, michigan, and have been playing their style of post hardcore since 2005. they have garnered a strong fan base (which i witnessed on monday!!!) and are held up in high regard when it comes to their musical talent. you certainly don't want to miss out on this bunch. TRUST ME!!! oh, and one thing i want to mention is the lead singer, who reminds me of the guy from Mewithoutyou. it's an unusual voice, one that tends to sound like it's almost crying. pretty interesting...

ok, so now with the tunes!!! first up is their debut ep titled, Vancouver. this is then followed by a self titled seven inch, then the ep called, Here, Here Vol.1. after that is Here, Here Vol.2, then the incredible full length, Somewhere at the Bottom of the River Between Vega and Altair. and in the two last places are the ep, Here, Here Vol.3 and their split with touché amoré, which i think is called, Searching for a Pulse/The Worth of the World. and that concludes our broadcast day. enjoy the music and get some much needed rest...

Tour In Progress...

last night was freekin' awesome!!! i finally got to see converge live and the experience was humbling. i arrived in tulsa early so i could catch up with my old college roommate and kick his butt at Call Of Duty, but that wasn't to be because i suck with a 360 controllers... (no excuses!!!) anyway, i got to the show pretty early and i actually thought it was canceled, but after some quick online checking i found out it wasn't, so i just waited around till people showed up and then i felt better!!! (yeah, whatever...) the show was insane, but restrained until converge took the stage.

first off we had local openers, Convicted and Operator De
ad Post Abandoned, take the stage before Black Breath slayed with their unique style of 80's thrash and 90's hardcore. after they were done Gaza, took over and played a very HEAVY set with great intensity. the lead singer is also a giant, so he should audition for that Adam's Family, movie remake i heard about... and then finally was converge. i've only seen live video's of them, so my actual sense on what they are like live was flawed, plus i've also heard stories about how lead singer, jacob bannon, can't sing those crazy parts like on record. well, after the show was all done, i took my preconceived motions and tossed them into the trash. converge SLAYED last night. jacob sang and screamed with his trademark "dog bark" style of hardcore/screamo. it's so ferocious that it sounds painful to hear. drummer ben koller pummeled wile bassist nate newton plugged along to the beat and also applied his own vocals to the mix. and then there is guitarist kurt ballou who plays with so much force and concentration that he makes it seem easy. he's a pro and it shows when he's doing his thing like this. overall, it was a wonderful day and night spent in tulsa, oklahoma's other hometown.

i missed the series finale of LOST, so i got to catch up today. oh, and i also purchased a shirt that lists all the bands on the tour. besides converge, the
re is also, Thursday, Harvey Milk, Coalesce, Gaza, Lewd Acts, Touché Amoré and Black Breath. over the course of the next three days i want to post on three or four of those bands who were not on my show date, but nonetheless awesome. for today, let's check out, Touché Amoré.

touché amoré is a hardcore/screamo band from los angeles, california that formed in 2007 i think. i haven't got to see them yet, but i hope to one day. over the past two years i kept hearing about them and when i finally found their demo i was surprised at how well they do the scene justice. the band plays very passionately and it shows through the singing and musicianship. touché amoré is a young band on the verge of being huge and many are taking notice. get into them before all the hipsters do!!! (ha ha hipsters...)

for the music we have the two immediate releases from the band. first is the wonderful self titled demo from 2008, then their debut full length, To the Beat of A Dead Horse. sometime in july they will be releasing a split with the screamo/emo band, La Dispute, but until then
these are awesome hardcore/screamo albums to have in your collection and i hope you will give them a shot. enjoy!!!
