The McRib Is Back...

currently searching for mcrib locations in oklahoma has proved to be useless since they are nowhere close to me. i could drive all the way to el reno, but eh... today is saturday and i'm feelin' pretty good. i think i'll go down to norman and spend some time at the outlet mall. maybe i could find a new sweater or something. oh, and our beloved oklhoma sooners play today at 6pm, so that's going to be awesome. aw, just a relaxing day. next week will be a bit crazy though, because the new Call of Duty goes on sale tuesday, so i'm going to have to bunker down and sit through yet another midnight release. oh well, it's just the life of a gamer/total NERD.

and one more thing, i'm currently in the process of looking for a place to live. well, i still have my dad's, but what i meant to say was, "i'm looking for my own home." i'd actually like to have a loft, and that's not because i attended art school and look all moody and such. naw, it's just that i totally dig that industrial look and the open space would be awesome. i would probably have enough room to practice my powwow dancing and to have underground boxing matches!!! uh, yeah...

okay, so i want to get this over with quickly because i'm burning daylight. today's music post comes courtesy of HYPE. you know what hype is don't ya??? well, this is something most music buffs consider hype, but whatever. it's pretty cool stuff and it comes from a three piece known as, Salem.

alright, now bare with me because this might blow your mind. or maybe not... so, salem is a band from traverse city, michigan that formed in 2006. they pretty much started an entire genre with their debut ep. this genre is floating around the internets at a rapid pace. it's known as witchhouse, or drag. heck, i've even heard it called, crunk shoegaze, darkwave, industrial and what have you. as you can probably see, i've posted a tone of labels for this band and rightfully so. the thing is, i hate labeling music and arranging it into all these genre's from nowadays. still, this group kinda sorta needs this in order for people to get the point. OK, to make this more simple, i'm going to say it's chopped and screwed post-punk. yes, that's basically what it is. it's gothic and punk, rock and pop. this melting pot of styles makes for an interesting, yet subdued quality that i honestly find addicting. of course, i'm a music geek who loves almost everything, so this is right up my alley. here, listen to the song "dirt" below for a quick taste...

SALEM - DIRT from ACEPHALE on Vimeo.

this music had the right amount of drugged out bliss that makes me sleepy, yet intrigued. it's a matter of finding something you like in certain things that let's you explore a bit further. now this type of mentality can make things hard for you, like drugs for instance, so don't use this idea for everything under the sun. i'm mostly referring to the music yo!!!

so, it's time to wrap this up. i think i have their entire disco up to this point so let's get started shall we??? in first place is their debut ep, Yes, I Smoke Crack. this was originally released back in 2008 and quickly gained an underground following. suddenly, tons and tons of independent artists have sprung up doing the same sort of thing. seriously!!! if you don't believe me, type witchhouse on google and see for yourself!!! anyway, after that is the Water ep, followed by their first seven inch single Ohk/Sweat (I). after that is their next seven inch Frost/Legend and then their full length debut, King Night. the debut is awesome stuff and need's to be played loudly and with good bass. so there you go, try this and dig something entirely different.

Columbus Is Dead...

i'm off work today, but for the wrong reasons. today is columbus day, and according to non-native americans', it's some sort of celebration of which many people get the day off. straight up, there is nothing worth celebrating on this day. columbus represents the beginning of the end for many MANY native americans. he was just the start of the long winded colonization of america and the raping of it's people. as a native american, i find myself never liking this holiday or history. i try to not live in the far far past when it comes to native american struggle because it's too hard to comprehend. oh, and how could columbus "discover" america if there were already people living on it??? anyway, i'm off and i'm thinking a bit deeper right now while typing this. i could write down a lot more things to spew about, but there really is no point. today is just another reason why the world is becoming such a terrible place. the ever present struggle to live each day surrounded by "zombies" and "politicians" is taking it's toll and eventually, we will all be eaten up by our own undoing. still, us native americans are here and we live each day remembering our loved ones and striving to stay alive in an unjust world ready to self implode...

my gosh, i need to chillax for a bit...

...

okay, so in order to get my mind off a few things, i'm going to write about music like i always do. this time were going electronic with an artist named, Flying Lotus.

flying lotus, also known as "flylo", or real name, "stevan ellison", is a young multi talented electronic producer from winnetka, california. he has been performing his own style of music since 2000 and has built a strong fan base and garnered rave reviews for his releases. he is currently on the warp records label which is the home to other notable electronic acts like Aphex Twin and Squarepusher. flylo is also a relative of John Coltrane and Alice Coltrane and cousin to Ravi Coltrane.

his music incorporates the family jazz styles as well as hip-hop beats and glitch music. flylo is often compared to producer, J Dilla, who's instrumental hip-hop beats were ahead of the game way back when. oh, and flylo has also been showcased on adultswim and is often used in their bumper music, though often uncredited.

for the music today i'm kind of going all over the place here with his releases, skipping out on a few ep's and singles, but mostly sticking with the overall available tunes. first two things to check out are his early beat compilations titled, July Heat and Raw Cartoons. after that we reach his debut album, 1983. this is then immediately followed by the totally awesome ep called, Reset. after that we have the Los Angeles album and then the amazing, Cosmogramma album. check out the song, "...and the world laughs with you" which features Thom Yorke of Radiohead fame on vocals. and lastly we have his latest ep called, Pattern + Grid World. search these and get to clubbin' or something. dig it...

Dance Off...

WOW!!! the weekend flew by so fast i'm still trying to catch up!!! red earth finally happened and it was great. i got to bust my out my fancy dance regalia for the second time, but in reality it felt like the first because so many more people got to see it. the compliments were very nice and i think it stood out well enough for my standards. (i really wanted those sequins to shine!!!) goofy thing is we forgot to bring the camera for all three nights. the photo below is the only proof of me being there. it's got that elusive bigfoot quality to it...

too tall...

next weekend is another good powwow, so it's dance time from here on out!!! oh, and in other news, the international trailer for the Scott Pilgrim movie is out now!!!

i have a falls creek meeting in a little bit, so i gotta cut straight to the music now. all the way from england is our next group called, Opus III.

opus III was a techno/house group composed of lead singer kirsty hawksaw and producers/musicians kevin dobbs, ian munro and nigel walton. they had success on the uk and us singles charts during the 90's and released two albums before splitting up. kirsty is still involved with the music scene today, having worked with artists like Delirium, Silent Poets and DJ Tiësto.

today i'm posting their debut album, Mind Fruit. this is an album with a solid mix of house/ambient/trance/and brief bits of drum n' bass. they even manage to do a King Crimson cover!!! try it out and float along with the ambiance...

My F*cking Sound...

well, what a saturday i had. it was very good. things got done at the falls creek meeting and i got to see Iron Man 2, which was awesome as well. i even ate some good mexican food for lunch, so yeah, i had a great day!!! i cherish these simple, yet profound moments of being alive and having things go smoothly. and yes, i cherish the hard times too because they help me to grow and mature in some ways...

let's get a but spastic with some crazy tunes by Squarepusher.

i love drum n' bass music. it's not for most people, but for me it's sometimes heaven and sometimes stimulant. you can't really do much to this type of electronic music, but there are those occasional moments, when it all comes together, and you do feel something, and then you begin to move and groove, and then you eventually fall down in exhaustion only to gradually rise back up and explode with pure eargasmic (or orgasmic) delight, then succumb to the usual tired mood, and then, finally, hopefully, gradually, fall into an epic euphoric trance and melt into your place of comfort.

squarepusher, also known as Tom Jenkinson, Chaos A.D. and The Duke of Harringay, hails from chelmsford, essex, england and plays electronic music that is very experimental and not only delves into the areas of drum n' bass, but also in techno/ambient/acid/house/jungle/funk/ and even jazz. there is a lot going on here, which is usually to be expected with this type of music. it touches in all areas and can leave you tired, but don't let that stop you.

okay, so with this post i'm hoping to try my best and get all the full lengths (minus the ton's of ep's except one) by squarepusher on here. let's see if i can make it work. right, so album number one is the debut titled, Feed Me Weird Things. this is a great place to start with. next we have the album, Hard Normal Daddy. following that is the fantastic ep called, Big Loada. this contains the above song, "come on my selector". that music video was directed by chris cunningham whom you all should check out. after that we have the album, Buzz Caner, which was released under his Chaos A.D. pseudonym and then, finally, we come to the album, Music is Rotted One Note. this is one of my favorites because it's so different from what he's done up to this point. it's his usual music, but all done with live instrumentation in the studio. it's a great change from the break-neck pace he's set up. moving along we have the two albums, Budhakan Mindphone and Selection Sixteen. this all leads up to my personal favorite album which is called, Go Plastic. this album is just great and contains my favorite songs from the guy. watch the video below for some live selections from that album. the next two records are, Do You Know Squarepusher and my other favorite, Ultravisitor. this later album showcases some neat live drumming and tom's ability to improvise on the spot. two more albums follow called, Hello Everything and Just A Souvenir respectfully. aaaaaannnnnndddd finally we come to the last and latest album from tom which is simply called, Solo Electric Bass 1. it's a live recording from 2007 that has tom performing with only a bass guitar and an amp. it was limited to only 850 copies worldwide. okay, so first off i want to apologize for all the sporadic places to find these tunes. it was really hard to get them all for you, and second, don't be scared to try some electronic music. you might find something here that tickles your fancy. enjoy!!!

Skunk Ape...

today is friday and the first day of Coachella 2010!!! i'm a little jealous that my buddy is there and i'm not, but oh well. she's in for the time of her life and i wish her the best. as for me, well i have already said this before, but i'll mention it again. this is the start to a great weekend that i have been waiting for for a long time. i'm going to the movies tonight and then tomorrow i'm hitting the powwow and dancing in my outfit for the first time!!! it's gonna be zoppity!!!

let's get technical for a bit and listen to some, King Crimson.

what am i doin' putting this on here??? i wasn't even thought of when this band came out. heck, my parents were still kids when this band first came out. i guess when it comes down to it, it's the music that stands the test of time and keeps making people turn on. king crimson are an awesome psychedelic/progressive band that were way ahead of their time when first starting. the band is from england and started in 1969 by guitarist robert fripp and drummer michael giles. the band is known to be a progressive act, but that label doesn't really do them justice. just look at all the labels i've given them at the bottom. yes, they really have incorporated that much material into their music. the original lineup of the band would last a short while before breaking up. after that, the they went into many different changes all the way up to the present, but that hasn't stopped them from rockin' out.

for the music, you will find two of their albums that are considered the best in their catalog. first is the classic debut, In the Court of the Crimson King. this masterpiece of musical ability and craft is a genre classic and one of the most important albums ever made. it's a real brain fart, as to why it wasn't included in the Rolling Stone Top 500 Greatest Albums Ever Made issue, but oh well... and in second place is the album, Lark's Tongues In Aspic. this was a later album that was made almost entirely by a different lineup, but non the less brilliant. dig this...

Burn, Oklahoma, Burn...

it's finally sunday, just like any other sunday, but for today, it's a special time because in exactly 50 minutes, the premiere episode of HBO's, The Pacific, starts!!! this is going to be interesting to see. i'll post my own, sort of, review of the first episode and let you all know my opinion on it, if that is of any interest to you. oh, and as for the ending thoughts on my last post, that last thing i mentioned...well let's just say that i'm still considering it and still doing some really HEAVY thinking on it. time will only tell if it's a good decision for me. lot's of praying to do...

okay, so let's speed things up a bit with some digital hardcore. here is, Atari Teenage Riot.

this fab four started in 1992 and went on until about 2000. it was just mentioned that they were getting back together this year to play again, so that's what made me think of them. so, this, uh, band or group, make digital hardcore techno. it's just what it sounds like. it blends elements of hardcore punk and electronic music into this one exploding package, and let me tell ya, atari teenage riot do it the best. (in my opinion of course!!!) the movement started in berlin, germany where the band hails from. there are also elements of rock/pop/indie/thrash and industrial included in their music. you just have to dig a little deeper to notice. the band is highly political, where as they fuse the ideals of anarchy, anti-fascist and anti-nazi views into their lyrics, all with a great punk mix. this is pretty brutal music to be considered, electronic or techno, but it somehow all works. plus it's pretty cool to jam when playing a really fast racing game, or other activities with high strung ordeals...yep.

so, like i mentioned, the band broke up in 2000 and after the death of member, carl crack from an overdose, it seemed unlikely that they would ever perform again. one of their last shows was opening for Nine Inch Nails. it's noted about how, at the end of that show, the band left the stage with a wall of sound that left many confused and sickly due to the harshness of their presence and volume. heh heh

right here are the two albums you need by the group. first is the compilation album, Burn, Berlin, Burn!. this album contains tracks from the groups first two releases and was america's first real foray into the groups digital hardcore style. and second here, is the album, 60 Second Wipe Out. this was their last release and it showcases a much more focused, yet rougher version of their already outlandish style. it closes the gap until the group starts making new music, which hopefully, will start happening soon. (one song has already been released!!!)

We're back, a schuyler story...

yeah, so i'm back home now. my dad is currently sitting in the armchair, watching crappy television and hurting with shoulder pain. surgery is a nasty thing. i'm glad i didn't have to go through it.

okay, so it's been a little fuzzy these past few days, but all is well. i'm currently jammin' some awesome electronic music, so it's something i want to post on. here is, The Future Sound of London.

once again, this is going back to the 90's. mxtxvx used to have this totally awesome show called, AMP, and it was usually on real late at night. it showcased sooooooo many awesome electronic acts for several hours. the future sound of london happened to be one of them. electronic music burst through in the 90's and has evolved so much over the years since. FSOL were one of the pioneers, and every album they release is upgrading the electronic genre. this duo, consisting of garry cobain, and brian douglas, hail from manchester, england. they work in many of the electronic sub-genre's, such as ambient, techno, trip-hop, drum n' bass and dance.

today you will find three of their albums. this is all from the best of their 90's work. and for a heads up, I'M TERRIBLY SORRY FOR HAVING TO USE RAPIDSHARE!!! okay, so the first thing to check out is the album, Lifeforms. this is a double album of experimental ambient techno. it's probably their most famous work and is a masterpiece of electronic music. next is the album, ISDN, followed by the album, Dead Cities. both of these are totally awesome and contain some, still fresh beats. check out the song "amoeba" from ISDN, and the songs, "my kingdom" and "we have explosive" from, Dead Cities. enjoy!!!

this here is a sample from the AMP show. this is exactly what it was like to watch all those years ago. FSOL are the first video on this clip.

Something Different...

earlier my dad an me were watching the original Night of the Living Dead from 1968. that old black and white film still holds up today and never fails to send shivers up and down my spine. i wonder what it must have been like to see it so long ago before the vulgar images in that film became the norm like it is today. i remember looking up Dawn of the Dead during my junior high days and freeking myself way out. i couldn't sleep good for almost a year or so. the bad dreams i had from that silly movie really had an impact on me. i stopped liking malls and i stopped myself from being surrounded by large groups of people. i still have a some of the fear today. but of course i can handle large crowds well when it comes to being at something i don't mind. like one of my favorite things ever, a concert!!!

there is a newer band that i've been totally digging for a while now. they've been around for a while now and have become one of the biggest acts in music today. but after i mention them to you, i assume that you will not have heard of them. i bet a thousand dollars you haven't!!! but, if you have then congrats!!! please send me your address and i'll send you a hot check. this band is called, Enter Shikari.

i bet that picture makes them look like some emo boy band huh??? well whatever you think. these guys started in 2003 in st. albands, herfordshire in england. they got their band name from the back of a boat or something of that nature. so, what makes this band so awesome??? well, for one, they do this weird but fantastic mix of hardcore/screamo stuff with drum n' bass techno. now i love all types of electronic music, and having it mixed with screamo punk music is an a+ in my book. but doing some diggin' around will net you with information that these guys aren't that original and groundbreaking. there are other bands out there that have done this sort of mash-up before. this doesn't effect me though, because these guys make it different. i like different when it's done right.

if you need an introduction, you just gotta do yourself a favor and look up the countless you tube videos of these guys playing live. they are a live band. most musical projects are only good in the studio, but when playing live they tend to stink. not these guys. the transition from studio to live is something i believe they took really seriously. they tour constantly and have only been to america a few times. i'm just wondering how come they haven't hit it big here yet, but i assume it's because they just don't get here that often. well, look no further than the Vans Warped Tour this coming 2010 summer. entre shikari will be playing almost all the dates along with other awesome groups. this years lineup is way better than last years embarrassing blunder of a festival.

today i have both of their full length records minus the self made ep's they did before. first is Take To The Skies. this was their debut and it reached #4 on the uk charts. it is dangerous screamo and crazy techno all rolled up into a perfect package. and second is the album Common Dreads. this is my favorite of the two and it shows a drastic change in style from their debut. lead singer rou reynolds has less screaming and more soft vocals this time around and it works great in his favor. check out the songs "juggernauts" "zzzonked" and "no sleep tonight" for good examples. there can be a line drawn between screaming and singing, and these guys are riding that line with ease and care. they know what they are doing and they do it well. so with that, check this music out and see you this summer!!!

Sinus Problems...

yeah, i'm stopped up again. despite the totally awesome weekend, i was sick almost everyday. at first i thought it was a cold, but i then began to notice it only being my nose and head. congestion is one of the most annoying things ever... so, last night my friend told me he got the new call of duty game, so i got online and played a few rounds with the guy. once i got to the main playrooms i checked my score and noticed that i was no longer on the very top of the list!!! i got bumped down two places!!! i ended the night in the wee hours of the morning, claiming my top spot once again, but only by a few thousand points. i know it will be beaten again, so i'm just getting myself ready for the onslaught of long hours playing call of duty. (i'm such a nerd...)

i don't really know what to post for music today. usually i post something that has been recently listened to, or just something that crossed my mind, but today i'm out of ideas. hmm, what have i not talked about in a long time, or not at all??? hmm... give me a second here...

do any of you like a little jazz music??? i certainly do and when i think of jazz there is only one artist that comes to mind. the amazing Miles Davis.

probably the most influential jazz musician to ever live, miles davis was way ahead of everybody out there doing jazz at the time. now, i know that jazz isn't the most accessible music known to man, but once you let yourself go and you get into the depths of it, you begin to feel the coolness of it all and the pure genius that the music entails.

miles davis was first and foremost a jazz player, but he was also a bandleader and composer. most of his works were all done by the man himself. i first got into davis back in the early 2000's after reading about him in the rolling stone top 500 greatest albums. (i often quote that issue...) his album, Kind of Blue, was in the top ten greatest albums, so i had to go check it out for myself. to be honest, i wasn't that impressed at first, but after some time i began to understand. it was in those subtle, quiet moments that i listened to the album and sure enough it became an addictive medicine for me. i sometimes put long pieces of music in the background while i do my work or anything for that matter. this album was always worth listening to whenever the time was right.

miles davis went on to work with a number of latter well known musicians like, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Bill Evans, Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, John McLaughlin, Cannonball Adderley, and many many more. davis was proficient in the 50's, 60's, and 70's. in the latter he started to go electric end experiment with his music. this was his most artistic period and remains his most influential. sadly, miles davis passed away in 1991 from a stroke. still though, the man made music for many many years and it still lives on like the legend himself.

so today i'm gonna post my personal favorites (all of the music is my favorite!!!) and just a warning, these files are quite large, so it may take some time before it all finishes. first off is the amazing album Kind of Blue and second is the double album which is totally crazy and psychedelic, Bitches Brew and third is Sketches of Spain and coming in fourth and last is the unappreciated and double album On The Corner. this last album was panned in its time, but is now considered to be one of the most influential albums in modern electronic music, post-punk, hip-hop, and drum n' bass. check these classics out and enjoy the free spirit of jazz.
