What a wonderful world...

oh my goodness, oh my GOODNESS!!! what an amazing weekend i've had!!! i can't just sit here and write nonsense words without using my skills to describe how awesome it all was. ok, so friday night started off good with me and mike going to the blue note to watch, The Cancer Bats. oklahoma locals, Over Stars and Gutters, opened the show and they were solid. the cancer bats were crazy awesome and further down below you'll find out about them for this post. heh heh ;)

me and "big" mike in da hood. (seriously...)

saturday began with me going to work to fill in a few hours for all those snow days we had to take. it was nice and relaxing, so i was grateful for the chance to do it. the day went on and i ate pizza at my grandma's then met up at mike's house to gather with the crew. you see, mike's wife, chealsey, had her cousin, john, come up from stillwater to hang for his late b-day party. he chose bricktown, so we ventured out to the strip and hopped around all night. it was a total blast and i'm soooooooo glad i made the effort to go. i don't get out much often, especially with close friends, so this was a real treat. uh, i think the pictures below are enough evidence...

me and mike eating sushi. (he was a noob!!! j/k)

the gang right before the sake bombs exploded...

buffoons fo sho!!!

so anyway, the weekend was a blast (like i already said...) and today was just as great. i got my dad to close our old phone account and now i'm starting to pay for my own service. included in the deal was my new HTC 4G smart phone. it's a touch screen and flippin' awesome. i just spent over two hours foolin' around with the set-up and applications. woo hoo!!!

alright, like i said, me and mike saw the cancer bats, so i think they deserve this nights music banter. uh, so without further adieu, here's The Cancer Bats.

this is a band that hails from toronto, ontario canada. they formed around 2004 or so, with the effort to make straightforward music that combined their love for bands like, Black Flag, Refused, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and probably d-beat, 70's-80's styled punk from england. their music is intense and brutal, but not in a jokingly, "deathcore" kind of way. (nothing against deathcore. to a point...) watching them friday night, i was reminded of some recent acts over the past few years i've seen like, Every Time I Die, The Gallows, The Bronx and perhaps some other artists that haven't been seen yet like, The Melvins and F*cked Up.

if there happens to be a chance to see these guys, go do it. they are totally awesome and put on a great show. they tore up the tiny stage friday night at this bar and there were probably only 30 people there. that's hardcore and it's what music is all about.

for the music, we first start with their self titled ep, then swing on by to their first full length, which is the album, Birthing the Giant. this is an awesome album by the way!!! right, so after that is their second full length, which is titled, Hail Destroyer. and after that is their latest full length titled, Bears, Mayors, Scraps and Bones. (really awesome album artwork there!!!) listen up and listen close. PLAY THIS LOUD!!! dig it...

Oooooooops...

so sorry to have not made a post in a while again. i guess it's because of Call of Duty: Black Ops. yeah, i've been going crazy with that game, so there!!! nyah nyah!!!

here's something a bit quick and it comes at us very fast courtesy of, Slayer!!!

yeah yeah yeah, this isn't really that nice of music to post here, but heck, i just love their thrashyness. you all should listen to SSSSSLLLLLLAAAAAYYYYYYEEEEEERRRRRR and thrash along. this is, in my opinion, the best of the best when it comes to thrash metal. they are way better than, Megadeth and Metallica combined. yeah, i said it...

ok, so there is one thing to listen to and that is their best album, Reign in Blood. no question...

Spooky, Booky, Pooky...

oooooooooo!!! last night i went and watched Paranormal Activity 2 and had a blast. it's not the most perfect movie, but you can't beat a fun movie watching experience. i went with several members of my family and we all got spooked bad. the film has a lot of those jump moments that try and catch you off guard, and for the most part, they work to great effect. i'll never forget how funny it was to hear the audience scream out loud while something happened on the screen. something like a fart under the blankets or a cell phone vibrating...

since it was soooooooooooo scary, i think i'll let you all watch some of Simon's Cat, because he's soooooooooo CUTE!!!

and in other news, today is another OU football game, so i guess i'll be watching that later on with the family. i think that's going to be fun!!! and so, let's get a bit scary again with some DEATHCORE!!! DEATHCORE!!! DDDDDDEEEEAAAAATTTTTHHHHHCCCCCCOOOOORRRRRREEEEEE!!!... seriously, that is the lamest thing ever, but the music is so BROOOOOTAL that it requires all caps people!!! okay, and so with the band then??? yeah, let's talk about the band, who happen be be called, The Red Chord.

the red chord is a band from revere, massachusetts that formed in 1999. they are considered one of the pioneers in the deathcore genre. of course, i honestly thought they were just a metalcore band with heavier growls, but then i noticed the grindcore dynamics, and now it seems to have taken shape and become it's own separate genre called, deathcore. shoot man, it's all just metal to me, but there are those purists out there that beg to differ, so i'm trying my best to list all references in honor of those tight pants wearing scenesters. funny how much i used to like this band back in the early 2000's. i got the chance to see them several times, and each show was bigger and heavier than the last. in my opinion, nothing really tops their debut album simply because it was radically different than most of the metalcore material that came out during that time. but as the years have passed and crab core has raped its way into the young minds of our nations youth, the metal genre's have taken more expansive routes, and thus, have begone to slide around and mix things up a lot more. it's a mish mash of all styles and you really have to dig through the garbage to find something good. the red chord are one of the best and are still around, tearing up the clubs and making the kids mosh. i just wish more people would mention them instead of all the others... and by others, i mean, Suicide Silence, Winds of Plague, Whitechapel, Emmure, Salt the Wound and Bring Me the Horizon. (not that those bands are terrible and such...)

time to rest, but before i go here's the music. first is their debut album called, Fused Together in Revolving Doors. after this is the excellent album, Clients and then, Prey For Eyes. and last is Fed Through the Teeth Machine. check these out and get scary and BROOTAL!!! or just get cutsey!!! aww...

Push ups, pull ups, sit ups...

this is a small post. small because i have nothing really to say. it’s just another excuse to write something down for the sake of writing. i’m going to be away from the blog for a few days, so this is a post you will probably see for a little while until i can get back to the computer. (where i’m going, the computer is slower than a slug having sex with a dead slug while swimming in jello and being higher than a kite…)

and yeah, for the sake of writing, and for those of you that might read this blog, thanks again for the support and the nice, yet brief, comments. oh, and if your comments happen to be the kind that are asking for certain passwords, please, for all that is holy and true, please please please be more specific. (i get my links from all over the place yo!!!)

so, for uh, the music, here’s a squeaker by a little band called, Charles Bronson.

charles bronson were a straight edge (sort of...)/hardcore/powerviolence punk band from dekalb, illinois that existed from 1994 to 1997. they played a ferocious style of music that involved thrash and screamo, which was dubbed “powerviolence” by whoever comes up with those types of genre names. (journalists probably…) the band looked like a bunch a winy emo kids, but when they played they unleashed a fury that usually resulted in short sets of crazy manic adrenaline and confusion. their style was borrowed from early powerviolence bands like, Infest, Siege, Man is the Bastard and Septic Death among many others. after the band broke up, members went on to form such bands as Das Oath, Holy Molar and some members even went on to play with Los Crudos and MK-ULTRA.

so, even though i said this was going to be short, you might think i lied because today you will find the entire charles bronson discography!!! what’s so nice about this is that it’s all contained in one album package!!! and to take this over the top, in this collection you will get the chance to jam close to 200 songs!!! (charles bronson weren’t known for long songs…) okay then, get with the program and jam this freakish music. i gotta go and find some solace for a little while. dig it…

So Tired...

i'm exhausted and as my dad is currently saying to me, "i need rest..." yeah, today was my first day at IHS. i arrived very early and now it's very late. i need to get some sleep, so i'm gonna stop this post right now...

well after i mention some music right quick. so, yesterday was about the band Daughters, and going with sort of the same pace here's the band, Ceremony.

ceremony is a hardcore/thrashcore/powerviolence/punk band from rohnert park, california that formed in 2005. they have gained a huge following in the hardcore underground and currently sit at the top of many people's "must see" lists. along side fellow bands like Fucked Up, Trash Talk, Punch, Blacklisted, Sabertooth Tiger, Paint it Black and Coke Bust, ceremony are considered one of the latest hardcore bands to take the genre up a notch and not only embrace the old-school, but also incorporate new elements and expand on the already established sound and style. it's a ferocious listening experience that will leave you totally exhausted like i currently feel...

okay, so this is a big list i guess. it's pretty much their entire discography!!! we first start with their self-released demo, then follow that with the ep, Ruined. next we have the album, Violence Violence and then the ep Scared People. following that is another ep titled, He-God-Has Favored Our Undertakings, then the full length, Still Nothing Moves You. we then are met with their newest ep titled, Sick, then their latest and brilliant full length, Rohnert Park. give these a listen and buckle up because it's about to become worse than a school bus accident. dig it!!!

Quarter Sacks And Quarterbacks...

well my little brother is with me right now. he's spending the night until friday, so i gotta watch out for him. he's currently capping terrorists in Call of Duty, so he can't make it here to say hi, but he sends his regards. oh, and he wants his momma to know he's not scared!!! in other news, i'm going to say i'm almost halfway done with the sequin work. it's going smoothly, but not fast enough for my tastes. i need to get the ball rolling if i'm to finish before red earth starts next weekend...

speeding right along, here's the funktastic music of, Trash Talk.

trash talk is a four piece hardcore band from sacramento, california. they formed in 2005 and have been punishing hardcore mosh warriors ever since. they play a more thrashy/powerviolece type of hardcore that's associated with acts like, D.R.I., Ceremony, Bracewar, R.A.M.B.O., Coke Bust, Sex Vid, Spazz, Scholastic Death, Charles Bronson and Punch. they've toured the world over and are on the verge of really breaking out like fellow hardcore powerhouse, Fucked Up, has in recent years. (this is all based on their appearances at SXSX and pitchfork reviews) one thing i'd like to mention are their live shows. i've been to MANY hardcore shows over the years and not all of them were as epic as a trash talk show. these guys know how to work a crowd and their mosh pits are BBBBRRRRROOOOOOOOTTTTTAAAAAALLLLLL!!! well, not like everybody dies brutal, but just very intense, testosterone fueled hate and punishement led by the kids who come out to sing along and stage dive. i got to see trash talk last summer for the first time. it was here in oklahoma at a Leftover Crack and The Casualties show. trash talk went on second and immediately after they started you could see the divide in the crowd. the street punks were not in the mix of things like the hardcore kids were. it was funny to watch and scary to be in. (i was at the bar...)

you will find pretty much everything else by trash talk right here except their split with Steel Trap. we first start with their demo followed by their self titled 7 inch. we then move to the ep, Walking Disease, then follow that with the ep, Plagues. next in line is their self titled debut, then the East of Eden 7 inch. and finally we come to their brand new full length, Eyes & Nines. this album was produced by the legendary Steve Albini, who was a part of classic acts like Big Black, Rapeman and Shellac. he's also worked on producing albums by artists like, The Pixies, PJ Harvey, Nirvana, Helmet, Godspeed! You Black Emperor, The Stooges, Jawbreaker, Superchunk and Neurosis just to name a few... so when all is said and written, you have an excellent day ahead of you to get trashed by, uh, trash talk i guess. enjoy!!!

Get sick with it...

by some sort of divine interruption, i might possibly be able to get my sequin work done on my outfit by sunday. if not, then i'm gonna cancel my performance at the lexington powwow and just go to the splashes meeting instead. oh, you didn't know about the splashes meeting??? oh, and you have no idea what this so called, "splashes" is??? well just to educate you real quick like, splashes is the annual summer newsletter i work on during indian falls creek. i'm going on about my fourth year or so and it's one of the best things i do in life. it's my opportunity to give back to something that has been so much to me over the course of my 25 years of living. indian falls creek is our summer baptist church gathering here in oklahoma. it's always during the hottest time in our state, but that's something we all are used to. we put up with the heat because the camp and location is so special to all of us. the retreat will happen during the first week of august, and by then i might have a job. (you never know how things work themselves out...) hopefully i can still go, but if not i know i'll still make it at least one night. (let's see em' try an' keep me from goin'!!!)

in other news, i just found out today that the freekin' Pixies, are comin' to tulsa, oklahoma!!! they are on their anniversary tour for the album, Doolittle, and they will be playing that album in it's entirety plus all the b-sides live!!! they will also sell that night's show for the people who watched!!! so, you get to see the band perform, plus have that night's gig on cd just for you!!! i think it's a win-win situation right there. hmm... i might have to pull the whole, "my birthday is coming soon!!!" trick on my family to see if they can help me get to this show. my birthday will be soon actually. it's on september 30th. i'm going to be, ugh... 26. i think my days of stage dives and high fives are coming to a close soon...

oh yeah, tonight is another special evening at the conservatory with the band, Municipal Waste, slaying all who come. i'm really thinking about going too...

these guys are from richmond, virginia and play crossover thrash/hardcore/punk/ and metal. they are goofy and don't take themselves seriously unless it's for a circle pit. i've never seen them, but that might change after tonight. (it's almost a coin toss here...) if you happen to dig bands like, Suicidal Tendencies, Toxic Holocaust, Darkest Hour, Slayer, Discharge, Gamma Bomb, D.R.I., Megadeath, Exodus, Metallica, Siege, Repulsion, Cryptic Slaughter, Septic Death and R.A.M.B.O. tttttttttttttthhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeennnnnnnnnn you might like municipal waste...

right here is their entire discography minus a few splits. first is their self titled ep, then the debut album called, Waste Em' All. after that we have the album, Hazardous Mutation followed by my personal fave, The Art of Partying. and in last place is their latest effort called, Massive Aggressive. so there you go. listen to these and face the waste!!!

Burn, Oklahoma, Burn...

it's finally sunday, just like any other sunday, but for today, it's a special time because in exactly 50 minutes, the premiere episode of HBO's, The Pacific, starts!!! this is going to be interesting to see. i'll post my own, sort of, review of the first episode and let you all know my opinion on it, if that is of any interest to you. oh, and as for the ending thoughts on my last post, that last thing i mentioned...well let's just say that i'm still considering it and still doing some really HEAVY thinking on it. time will only tell if it's a good decision for me. lot's of praying to do...

okay, so let's speed things up a bit with some digital hardcore. here is, Atari Teenage Riot.

this fab four started in 1992 and went on until about 2000. it was just mentioned that they were getting back together this year to play again, so that's what made me think of them. so, this, uh, band or group, make digital hardcore techno. it's just what it sounds like. it blends elements of hardcore punk and electronic music into this one exploding package, and let me tell ya, atari teenage riot do it the best. (in my opinion of course!!!) the movement started in berlin, germany where the band hails from. there are also elements of rock/pop/indie/thrash and industrial included in their music. you just have to dig a little deeper to notice. the band is highly political, where as they fuse the ideals of anarchy, anti-fascist and anti-nazi views into their lyrics, all with a great punk mix. this is pretty brutal music to be considered, electronic or techno, but it somehow all works. plus it's pretty cool to jam when playing a really fast racing game, or other activities with high strung ordeals...yep.

so, like i mentioned, the band broke up in 2000 and after the death of member, carl crack from an overdose, it seemed unlikely that they would ever perform again. one of their last shows was opening for Nine Inch Nails. it's noted about how, at the end of that show, the band left the stage with a wall of sound that left many confused and sickly due to the harshness of their presence and volume. heh heh

right here are the two albums you need by the group. first is the compilation album, Burn, Berlin, Burn!. this album contains tracks from the groups first two releases and was america's first real foray into the groups digital hardcore style. and second here, is the album, 60 Second Wipe Out. this was their last release and it showcases a much more focused, yet rougher version of their already outlandish style. it closes the gap until the group starts making new music, which hopefully, will start happening soon. (one song has already been released!!!)

Knee High...

here's 3-for-3. i'm on a roll and trying to catch up with the already 19 days of january 2010. oh, and my current mood as of right now is ok. i'm still gonna play some volleyball tonight, and i'm also trying to watch the movie, 500 Days of Summer, but i keep getting distracted by other things.

this band was cool and had a great sense of dark humor. not to be taken seriously, here is S.O.D. or better known as Stormtroopers Of Death.

starting as a side project in 1985-2007, this band was very short lived, but reunited sporadically throughout the years for festivals and such. the idea was inspired by scott ian's, of Anthrax fame, drawing of the character he dubbed, "sargent d". recruiting anthrax drummer charlie benante, Brutal Truth bassist dan lilker, and Psychosis bassist billy milano on vocals, the band recorded a shoddy demo of 59 songs then went forth and created one of the best hardcore punk/thrash metal albums of all time. the album would be called, Speak English or Die and it set the band off on a world tour and high fame. they recorded a few more albums, one of them being a live at budokon album, but nobody really cares about those. it's all just about SEOD, and with that you have the great opportunity to listen to that wonderful jam right here!!! oh, and as a special twist, it's the re-release version with better audio and live tracks tagged at the end!!!

Arise...

today i just found out i missed my deadline for the fall 2010 writing program at brown university. i can't believe i did that. now, if i wanted to go there, i have to wait until the fall 2011 program. i don't know if i'm going to be alive by that time!!! that's way to far in the future for me to grasp. i need to make a decision today on what exactly i'm going to do. i've been looking around, and it seems that OSU, here in still water oklahoma, has an MFA program in creative writing. i think i might try that out. i have until january 15th, so i better get crackin' right now!!!

since my time is short, i'm gonna post a band here with the quickness. these guys were from brazil and have been around since the 80's. they were an awesome brutal force in the metal scene back then, as well as in the 90's before loosing the lead singer and getting someone else to cover for him. they were/are called Sepultura.

thrash and death metal were the original traits of this band before the 90's came along and their sound changed. they incorporated industrial and hardcore punk into the mix and eventually gave birth to what we now know as nu-metal. lead singer max cavalera left the band in 1996 and started the awesome Soulfly. the details of his departure remain unknown, but there is much speculation as to why it happened which i don't really care to mention here.

this is heavy stuff. HEAVY!!! oh, and one more thing that made this band so awesome was the fact that they mixed in their own tribal music with the modern metal style they did. yes, you can hear all sorts of unique sounds in their music along with the controlled mayhem going about. yeah, so here i have the last three albums with max before the left the band. these are more of the latter era tunes from sepultura and they feature the nu-metal and hardcore tones than the death metal and thrash of the old era. first is Arise, then we have Chaos A.D. and in last place is Roots. the third album is my favorite and what i believe to be the bands best work. check these out and bang your head!!!
