with all said and done, it's weird how bills look once you get them in the mail. i guess i need to get used to the awkwardness of how it all looks on print because i'm having a hard time figuring out how much to pay for my cell phone charges. ugh, oh well. it's not a big deal. i know things will work out in the end, so no use worrying over money like it's my life's blood or something. i knew that once i started my own phone line i'd be taking on a responsibility, so there. anyway, i'm currently at home writing this post. i didn't feel good at all this morning, so i stayed home today. i think it stems from yesterdays scramble at work. i got so much stacked up and i did accomplish a lot, but after the day was through, i felt like nothing was done. i went to church and came home feelin' sick. i guess it just carried on to today. oh well, at least i'm blogging again!!!
this coming weekend will be awesome and pretty busy. friday night i'm hangin' out with kristy, then who knows what. on saturday i'm shopping for some furniture with my mom and then taking kristy to the conservatory to watch Red City Radio play at their cd release show. and as for sunday, i'm gettin' together with my family and we're gonna watch the thunder vs. the lakers. after that, i gotta start packin' for my big move next tuesday. overall, it's goin' to be zoppity!!!
so, yesterday during the last hour or so of work, i happened upon an older band in my music collection that i haven't listened to in a long time. i played their music a bit loudly while i worked away the last minutes of my schedule. the band i'm talking about is called, Boris.
boris are a three piece band from tokyo, japan who have been playing their own selections of genres since 1992. they are known for their intense and very loud shows of pure heavy metal. well, not metal like you think, but the more obscure and extreme genres like drone and doom metal. recently they have incorporated other styles like dream-pop/ambient/shoegaze and post-metal. it's easy to say, that if you like thee styles of, say, Isis, Neurosis, Cult of Luna, Earth, Sun O))) and Pelican, then you should like boris. heck, even if you like the shoegaze styles of My Bloody Valentine, then you should like boris. check it...
oh, and before i forget, i'm only posting one of their albums and that album, of course, if called, Pink. it's their most highly acclaimed and my favorite. its what got me into them as well as many many others. it's a masterpiece of music that will challenge you as well as compliment you. dig it...
this is the last post for 2010. it's been a very strange and rough year for me. for your sake, i'm not going to spend this time telling you about my problems for once. everybody has problems, so i'm nothing special. anyway, like i said, it's been a strange year. hopefully i will make 2011 a better one. i need more focus and understanding in my life. i can't see clearly right now...
wait, please don't think that all was terrible. there were still some amazing moments i had and christmas this year happened to be one of them. i'm still happy that my family all got together and managed to not kill each other.
me and my little cousins from houston. i'm sooooo glad they came to visit!!!

...
WAIT!!! what about the music yo??? right right... okay, so here's Daft Punk ya goons!!!
i just figured that daft punk would fit in with the new years celebrations. right, so daft punk is a electronica house duo from paris, france that formed back in 1993. they are held up in high regards and are considered the pioneers in the french house genre. they have received critical acclaim all over the world for their catchy singles and amazing live shows.
in 2006 daft punk headlined the dance tent at coachella and instantly became one the best live acts in the world. seriously, their live shows became an instant success and thrilled many people across the globe. just recently the duo has completed the Tron Legacy soundtrack to the film of the same name. it's a mostly instrumental affair, but fans love it nonetheless.
daft punk always make me happy and take me back to a time when i was young and music became a forefront to adventurous new horizons. (late night mxtxvx and such were my outlets...) yep yep yep, so here is some music to make you dance and enjoy yourself. don't waste it!!!
first place in their disco the amazing debut album, Homework. next is my personal favorite which is the album, Discovery. after that is their third album, Human After All, and then their Alive 2007 album. lastly is the newly released soundtrack album, Tron Legacy. get in on the fun and dig it...
*this post was written yesterday, but not published till today since the computer at my house is sick with viruses...*
i’m enjoying the sudden coldness that’s sweeping across oklahoma. the chilly air feels nice against my lungs and through my nose. sleeping in a cold bed, only to become warm by your own body heat is one of my favorite things. if i had to choose a permanent weather, i’d choose this kind. i say this mostly because i love wearing long sleeve shirts and sweaters. also, my jackets look friggin’ awesome yo!!!
well, i guess the tone for this post is different than the last one as you may have noticed. if not, they you don’t pay enough attention!!! anyway, i’d like to share a bit of my past with you. there was this one time when i almost died. i must have been about eleven or twelve when it happened. i was living in these crummy apartments with my dad back then, and for fun, i’d rollerblade all over the place. (i was a big Mighty Ducks fan…) well, on this particular day i was getting close to the edge of the parking lot, which ended near this sort of half pipe ditch. on the other side was a local middleclass suburban neighborhood, closed in by an old wooden fence. i wanted to skate the ditch walls, so i attempted by stepping in. instantly my feet rolled out from under me and i fell flat on my face. my large head (without a helmet…) slammed onto a wooden board that fell from the fence. it all hurt and sucked badly, but what caught my attention was the large nail sticking out from the board. my head was nearly half a foot away from landing on it.
i wasn’t one for thinking of death a lot back then, but this matter changed my life. i took close notice and my thoughts began to sketch out different situations on which i could die. i must have sat there for over 30 minutes, just staring at the board and then around the location. everything in my life at that moment seemed pointless. i lost what was left of my carefree innocence, and from then on i subject everything to my own personal motion. and what that means is, nothing can be simple anymore. it has become complicated and i make it that way. there is now a creeping feeling of something bad happening. i’ve had this issue ever since…
it’s weird though. i’ve been in cars wrecks and tornados, but this one little incident set the course for the things to come. ugh, maybe i’m just exaggerating, or better yet, writing this for attention and i just don’t know it, but regardless, it feels good to mention this little tid bit of my life. maybe its all for future reference when aliens take over and they need to know some of our human history. yeah!!! they’ll read my blog and discover a human who has some serious issues and who also really REALLY likes music. maybe then they will appreciate the Deftones, Joy Division, American Football, My Bloody Valentine and Nick Drake as much as me…
gliding through the archives of music out there, occasionally i’ll stumble upon something new that instantly makes me love it. new music is often harder for me to like than the old, so this was an exception that took strong presence over the past few months. this new music i speak of goes by the name, Teengirl Fantasy.
this is an electronic duo that consists of dudes named, nick weiss and logan takahashi. they currently go to college in ohio, but have taken time off to tour and make their music. they have blown up over the past year in blogs and independent music sites like pitchfork and stereogum. what they make is nothing new for the electronic genre, but it sure is a breath of fresh air. the duo mix and sample old school soul with trance like flourishes. it all meshes together quite nicely and makes for interesting and relaxing moments. they recently released their debut album, 7AM and it has made me a huge fan. songs like, “cheater’s” “four to floor” and “vibes” showcase young talent that is almost ready to take over. it’s a good example of the so called, “laptop” music that seems real easy to make nowadays. if you like such artists as, Gold Panda, James Blake, Matthew Dear, Toro Y Moi and old school electronica nobles, The Chemical Brothers, Orbital, The Future Sound of London and The Crystal Method, then you will be at home here with teengirl fantasy.
so, now that you know it, why don't you try it??? right here you will find some of their self released demos and then their debut full length, 7AM. dig it...
back to the grind. the holiday was very nice and welcomed by me. i managed to relax a bit and catch up on some much needed me time. shoot, on black friday i went out and purchased six new video games!!! DUDE!!! six new video games that i now need to beat… here’s the list:
Muramasa: The Demon Blade
Fallout: New Vegas
Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon
No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle
God of War III
Demon’s Souls
in addition to these, on monday i checked out the cyber space sales and found three more games!!!
Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles
Sin & Punishment 2: Star Successor
MadWorld
so, yeppers. i got’s me some new games that will last me a LONG time. these need to be spread out over the upcoming year, so no rush to conquer them all. heck, i still have about ten left from the last few years that are all in the stages of being beaten. (most of them are about 75 to 85% complete…) don’t you hate it when you stop playing a video game and then come back and have to remember the feel of it all over again??? I DO!!!
anyways, back to the weekend. saturday night was an exciting one, what, with OU almost getting beaten by OSU at bedlam. OMG, seriously, it was a close game!!! very close… there were way too many missed plays to remember, but in the end, my team won and my family celebrated by jumping up and down, making the food in our stomachs churn and mix like cement. (mom made spaghetti!!!)
tonight will be my first practice for the upcoming native american christmas pageant. i will need to muster up all the strength i have in order to make this work. i was nicely asked, so i better step up and be a man, or in this case, joseph, the father of jesus…
i want to make this a one album post, so here is a little known band that kills every time i listen to them. they went by the name of, Mare.
mare was a very short lived band that existed from 2004 to 2007. they were from toronto, canada and shared members with the band, The End. aaaaannnnnnnndddddd that’s all i really know about them. how did i come to find them you might ask??? well, i did so by reading up on other bands such as, Isis, Jesu, Godflesh, Neurosis, Keelhaul, Converge, Botch, The Dillinger Escape Plan and Cult of Luna. as you hopefully can tell, mare have a close relation to the style those bands produce/produced. they were always mentioned when i scoped out profiles on that particular doom metal/post-metal/shoegaze style of music. glad i paid attention, because these guys were good. really, REALLY good, and they only released one ep!!! yes, ONE EP!!!
do yourself a favor and check these guys out. they were on the top of their game and remain legends despite their very short career and recorded output. if you like any of the bands i mentioned, this should work for you. dig it...
i made it to another weekend it seems. for sure, this has been an awfully hard week to handle. the circumstances of which i had to deal under were not for the faint of heart. my mind, body and soul have been on very high levels as well as autopilot. to have made it this far and not given up is something i’m thankful for. i just hope now i can relax a bit. my thoughts need to bleed out some, so that’s what the blog is for!!! duh duh duh…
oh, and tomorrow i’m seeing the first part of the last Harry Potter movies on imax!!! this is going to be awesome and i can hardly wait. as for tonight, well i have no plans as usual. if i was still in college, i’d probably find something to do, most likely with the friends i had. right now, it’s not happening like that, but i still wish it would sometimes. i still wish i was in school a bit more. that master’s degree is still calling for me…
since i feel like i’ve been through the ringer (again…) here’s some music that reflects my mood, which is between layers. the band for today goes by the name of, Lovesliescrushing.
this mysterious two-piece from east lansing, michigan, started back in 1991 and are presumably still together, making the occasional music piece here and there. to describe their style, i would have to say, take the heavy fuzz of the songs, “loomer” and “touched” by My Bloody Valentine, then mix in the song, “avalyn 1” by Slowdive and then finally add a bit of the noise textures from artists like, Merzbow, Fennesz and Belong and you might have a bit of an understanding here. yes, this is lovely atmospheric noise that recalls some of the tastiest bit of the genre’s i usually post on here. lovesliescrushing was an awesome find and it was everything i wanted it to be.
for the tunes, you will find a few of their offerings here. first, and hte best place to start, is their debut album, Blowneyelashwish. we follow this with their second full length, Xuvetyn. and then in last place are the albums, Voirshn and Glissceule. enjoy the ambience...
not much goin' on here today. i'm just waiting for the next episode of The Waking Dead to appear and while doing that, i thought i'd go ahead and post something real quick. i'm also waiting for tomorrow nights launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops. this is going to be, yet another video game fueled month. oh, and the moving thing is still happening.
ok, for the music here is the sound track to the film, Mysterious Skin.
the movie mysterious skin, was directed by greg araki, and released back in 2004. it stars joseph gordan-levitt and brady corbet and it details something i'm not wanting to discuss here. this is one of those hard to watch films that can break your heart and possibly make you never want to watch it again. still, it's artful and somber and the direction is spot on. what i like most about it is the music of course, and greg araki has a good sense of choice when it comes to his movie making. if you have ever seen any of his past films, (Nowhere, The Living End, Doom Generation...) then you probably know that the guy loves his ambiance and thrives in the shoegaze/dream-pop spectrum. for this film, besides having music by bands like Curve, Slowdive, Ride and Sigur Rós filtered throughout the film, he also recruited the talented work of ambient artist Harold Budd and guitarist Robin Guthrie who was one of the founding members of Cocteau Twins to create a rich and atmospheric soundtrack to accompany his film. to describe ambient music is very hard, so you just have to give it a listen and live through it yourself.
currently searching for mcrib locations in oklahoma has proved to be useless since they are nowhere close to me. i could drive all the way to el reno, but eh... today is saturday and i'm feelin' pretty good. i think i'll go down to norman and spend some time at the outlet mall. maybe i could find a new sweater or something. oh, and our beloved oklhoma sooners play today at 6pm, so that's going to be awesome. aw, just a relaxing day. next week will be a bit crazy though, because the new Call of Duty goes on sale tuesday, so i'm going to have to bunker down and sit through yet another midnight release. oh well, it's just the life of a gamer/total NERD.
and one more thing, i'm currently in the process of looking for a place to live. well, i still have my dad's, but what i meant to say was, "i'm looking for my own home." i'd actually like to have a loft, and that's not because i attended art school and look all moody and such. naw, it's just that i totally dig that industrial look and the open space would be awesome. i would probably have enough room to practice my powwow dancing and to have underground boxing matches!!! uh, yeah...
okay, so i want to get this over with quickly because i'm burning daylight. today's music post comes courtesy of HYPE. you know what hype is don't ya??? well, this is something most music buffs consider hype, but whatever. it's pretty cool stuff and it comes from a three piece known as, Salem.
alright, now bare with me because this might blow your mind. or maybe not... so, salem is a band from traverse city, michigan that formed in 2006. they pretty much started an entire genre with their debut ep. this genre is floating around the internets at a rapid pace. it's known as witchhouse, or drag. heck, i've even heard it called, crunk shoegaze, darkwave, industrial and what have you. as you can probably see, i've posted a tone of labels for this band and rightfully so. the thing is, i hate labeling music and arranging it into all these genre's from nowadays. still, this group kinda sorta needs this in order for people to get the point. OK, to make this more simple, i'm going to say it's chopped and screwed post-punk. yes, that's basically what it is. it's gothic and punk, rock and pop. this melting pot of styles makes for an interesting, yet subdued quality that i honestly find addicting. of course, i'm a music geek who loves almost everything, so this is right up my alley. here, listen to the song "dirt" below for a quick taste...
this music had the right amount of drugged out bliss that makes me sleepy, yet intrigued. it's a matter of finding something you like in certain things that let's you explore a bit further. now this type of mentality can make things hard for you, like drugs for instance, so don't use this idea for everything under the sun. i'm mostly referring to the music yo!!!
so, it's time to wrap this up. i think i have their entire disco up to this point so let's get started shall we??? in first place is their debut ep, Yes, I Smoke Crack. this was originally released back in 2008 and quickly gained an underground following. suddenly, tons and tons of independent artists have sprung up doing the same sort of thing. seriously!!! if you don't believe me, type witchhouse on google and see for yourself!!! anyway, after that is the Water ep, followed by their first seven inch single Ohk/Sweat (I). after that is their next seven inch Frost/Legend and then their full length debut, King Night. the debut is awesome stuff and need's to be played loudly and with good bass. so there you go, try this and dig something entirely different.
i recall watching a cartoon show with my little brother called, Chowder. it’s pretty cute and harmless, and has a wonderful art palette. on this one particular episode, the main character, who i think is a rabbit, had a flatulence problem.
from what i can remember, his problem was so bad that it caused him a lot of pain and struggle. but, as most cartoons should do, the tides turned and chowder used this gift and made himself famous for farting on cue. uh, and the next thing i remember is that he dubbed himself, “rootin’ tootin’” and became a theatrical sensation, at least for as long as his flatulence lasted. why am i writing about this??? i have no idea…
aw, speaking of cartoon shows, last nights South Park was hilarious!!! it paid homage to the Spiderman movies and comics, as well as make a few jabs at the cherished anime classic, My Neighbor Totoro. it also seems to be the middle episode in a three-part arc, so the conclusion is next week. hmm, where will matt and trey take this next??? oh, and the gothic kids made an appearance, so that was extra funny.
speaking of goth, i guess it’s time to finally mention the king of all goth bands. this band has been around for a LONG time and have been through the ringer. they still rip and inspire many. i’m of course speaking about, The Cure.
the cure hail from crawley, england and have been around in some kind of form since 1976. they were one of the first bands, alongside Joy Division, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Wire, Magazine, Bauhaus, The Buzzcocks, Per Ubu, Public Image LTD, and Gang of Four, in the post-punk movement. they were given the goth rock stigma because of their image and lyrical style. this, along with their peers, established the goth rock scene that is really just post-punk and nu-wave all mixed together, but with more mascara and darker clothes.
fronting this group is charismatic lead singer, robert smith. you may know him as the giant moth-type man who defeated mecha barbara streisand when she invaded south park back in it’s first season.
oooooorrrrrrrr, you may know this guy by his mysterious glammed up look that has probably graced many “dark depressed” suburban teenager’s bedrooms since the 80’s on some form of poster. regardless, this is the man who singlehandedly wrote the emotions and feelings of so many people who couldn’t write it themselves. he has this massive cult following and the people love everything he touches. as for me, i consider him one of the better pop artists out there and i wish more could make music as good as he has.
and for the music i'm posting a personal best of. these are the albums i'd take along if the cure was the only thing i could listen to. starting off is their american debut, Boys Don't Cry. this is actually a re-arranged version of their uk debut, Three Imaginary Boys, but with different cover art and track listings. the title track is just pure post-punk at it's finest and it makes me want to dance every time. next in line is the double album, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, then their most famous, Disintegration. this album defined goth/post-punk/nu-wave music for years to come and is listed in the Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums Ever Made issue at number 326 respectfully. and then in last place is the album, Wish. ok, so you now have a little bit of goth rock 101 behind you. to finish this course you must partake of the music and dance away!!! dig it...

I would say I'm sorry If I thought that it would change your mind But I know that this time I've said too much Been too unkind
I try to laugh about it Cover it all up with lies I try and Laugh about it Hiding the tears in my eyes 'cause boys don't cry Boys don't cry
I would break down at your feet And beg forgiveness Plead with you But I know that It's too late And now there's nothing I can do
So I try to laugh about it Cover it all up with lies I try to laugh about it Hiding the tears in my eyes 'cause boys don't cry
I would tell you That I loved you If I thought that you would stay But I know that it's no use That you've already Gone away
Misjudged your limits Pushed you too far Took you for granted I thought that you needed me more
Now I would do most anything To get you back by my side But I just Keep on laughing Hiding the tears in my eyes 'cause boys don't cry Boys don't cry Boys don't cry
