this isn't a hobbits tale, but a schuyler tale. this past week was a surreal experience to say the least. i still can't quite comprehend what the heck happened, but needless to say, and sorry for using the term, "needless to say", i'm very much in a daze and can't quite get out of it. i'm thinking that the music i've posted the past week is very much a reflection of how my mind is/was working. tonight might be the most eccentric. let's hope this next week will be a better one...
tonight's music isn't an easy choice to settle on, nor is it an easy listening experience. but, it is excellent and worthy of my blog space. tonight, let's get experimental with the music of, The Pop Group.
the pop group is a post-punk band that formed back in 1978 and continued on till 1980. they most recently got back together, but chances are i'll never get to see them. anyways, their brand of music is pretty scant and almost vacant of emotion, but don't let that fool you into thinking this is just dead on arrival. it's bleak, but also full of a rhythm that flows freely and funky. they can make you dance and also make you pull your hair out. in a statement on their plans to reunite, the band said this, "there was a lot left undone,....we were so young and volatile....let's face it, things are probably even more fucked now than they were in the early 80's.....and we are even more fucked off!". this is exactly how i feel now that i'm up to the last day of the weekend. tomorrow is monday and with that comes work. the desperation i'm currently having towards wanting to write and follow my dreams is conflicting with my duties to make money and move out and live a normal life like most older people think i should. i don't think i'm that normal, and the pop group weren't that normal either...
posted on here is the pop group's debut album, simply titled, Y. it's an endurance test in patience and curiosity. i can't explain what it means to me because i'm currently despondent in all areas, but i do enjoy it very much. try listening to it when you are stuck in rush hour traffic...
