this is a small post. small because i have nothing really to say. it’s just another excuse to write something down for the sake of writing. i’m going to be away from the blog for a few days, so this is a post you will probably see for a little while until i can get back to the computer. (where i’m going, the computer is slower than a slug having sex with a dead slug while swimming in jello and being higher than a kite…)
and yeah, for the sake of writing, and for those of you that might read this blog, thanks again for the support and the nice, yet brief, comments. oh, and if your comments happen to be the kind that are asking for certain passwords, please, for all that is holy and true, please please please be more specific. so, for uh, the music, here’s a squeaker by a little band called, Charles Bronson.
charles bronson were a straight edge (sort of...)/hardcore/powerviolence punk band from dekalb, illinois that existed from 1994 to 1997. they played a ferocious style of music that involved thrash and screamo, which was dubbed “powerviolence” by whoever comes up with those types of genre names. (journalists probably…) the band looked like a bunch a winy emo kids, but when they played they unleashed a fury that usually resulted in short sets of crazy manic adrenaline and confusion. their style was borrowed from early powerviolence bands like, Infest, Siege, Man is the Bastard and Septic Death among many others. after the band broke up, members went on to form such bands as Das Oath, Holy Molar and some members even went on to play with Los Crudos and MK-ULTRA.
so, even though i said this was going to be short, you might think i lied because today you will find the entire charles bronson discography!!! what’s so nice about this is that it’s all contained in one album package!!! and to take this over the top, in this collection you will get the chance to jam close to 200 songs!!! (charles bronson weren’t known for long songs…) okay then, get with the program and jam this freakish music. i gotta go and find some solace for a little while. dig it…
sorry again that it's been a while since i've posted on here. this past weekend was a bit different, so i didn't much care to take the time to make a post. i instead had fun watching New Found Glory, seeing OU beat the snot outta florida state, and eating good home cooked food from my mom. so, in all, it was a nice retreat from the usually, painful existence i've been living this past year. i so gotta move out of this house. it's literally killing me...
you know that time when your awake, and yet not??? or maybe asleep, yet awake??? when all space is frozen and you feel almost coma-like??? that sometimes happens to me. it usually ends up in one of those 'out of body' experiences. those are a bit scary, but also interesting. it always seems like it's the opportunity to witness something amazing. my only worry, and this is always the big one, is whether or not i can come back to when experiencing these odd moments.
my main point here is that the music for tonight reminds me of those bizarre scenarios. those jet lagged focal points that seem to happen quite often. case in point, here's the music of, Julee Cruise. let's get a bit dreamy...
julee cruise is my ultimate dream-pop singer. she's a majestic artist who creates this comforting womb with just her voice. it's this ultimate Phil Spector 'wall of sound' style that i adore. cruise, has been active in music and theater since 1985 and quickly rose to fame during the 90's cult classic television show, Twin Peaks. the soundtrack to that show was mostly written by creator, David Lynch, with the main focus being on cruise's unique vocal approach. she became known for the show's theme song, "falling" as well as other notable tracks like, "rockin' back inside my heart" and "floating".
here today, it's my great pleasure to present her debut album, which is titled, Floating Into the Night. this was the shows soundtrack and it's a great piece of work. i love love LOVE it!!! go dig some and try to get some good, healthy, sleep...

hmm… it seems that i can’t figure out a schedule for my exercise program. this is bothersome because i should have already started by now. i know the process will take some time, but i’m anxious to begin. to coincide with my already frustrated problem, i’m increasingly tired everyday. my sleep pattern is about the same, but darn’it, it sucks to still be all haggard and zombie like every morning. i can’t always stop at 711 and get a coffee, and no one in my office seems to like it that much, so, yeah… midnight is my usual time to be asleep, but even that is difficult to attempt every night. i must get this exercise program started because i believe i’ll benefit from it and thus, make myself ready to go to bed at a decent hour and no more laying there staring at the white ceiling...
ugh, i’m ssssssooooooooooooo tired. why does sleepy music feel so welcomed right now??? maybe because it’s soothing and calm, which is why i want to post a more newer artist who goes by the name, Toro Y Moi.
this young man is one of the leading artists in the chillwave movement that exploded in the summer of 2009. toro y moi, or better yet, chazwick bundick, is a singer-songwriter who works mostly with ambient electronics and synthesizer layouts. his style is reminiscent of dream-pop and shoegaze artists, as well as indie pop and psychedelic bands. some of his contemporaries from the chillwave movement are acts like, Neon Indian, Animal Collective, Washed Out, Panda Bear, Memory Tapes, Best Coast, Wavves, Small Black and Night Jewel. heck, you could even throw in some TV On The Radio and you wouldn't be far off. this so called, “genre”, isn’t really anything new per se, but it has been highly praised and is/was the highlight of the past year or so. (basically, it’s just upgraded nu-wave…)
so, for toro y moi we have his one and only full length available, the debut album called, Causers of This. when i first discovered this dude through my usual sources, i quickly took a liking to his music and style. it’s lush and dreamy, but with the right amount of electronic flourishes and drugged out ambiance i tend to dig very much. check out the video below and see if you happen to find something appealing. if not, then who’s keepin’ ya from anything else??? certainly not me!!!
so tired, so very very tired. i suppose this is the result of my own undoing, or a result of watching food network really late. it’s a tuesday and yet it feels like a monday. the weekend blazed by with great speed, leaving me in the dust and covered in happiness. oh yeah, i actually had a decent time spent with my family. it was thoroughly enjoyable and i want more moments like these. it all makes more sense to have fun and enjoy life than it does to be sad and depressed. that isn’t to say i choose to be like that all the time. no no!!! instead, the depression chooses me and it takes over and makes the day more crappy. the curse of depression isn’t something i’d wish on anyone. the ultimate feeling of dread and despair is too much to take, even for the strongest of people. but yeah, this weekend proved to be a good one and i was even able to get some personal stuff off my mind. to have the chance to clear my mind is awesome and something i’d like to do more often.
music sometimes helps too. such is the case with today’s artist, a singer-songwriter who’s young talent has made him known in the underground as one of the best groundbreaking acts to recently come about. he, and his backing band, go by the name of, Wavves.
waves is the project of lead singer and guitarist, nathan williams and original drummer, ryan ulsh. they came together in 2008, released their self titled debut, and quickly garnered critical acclaim from many music publications. the sound they create is best described by me as, surf pop-punk. it’s very lo-fi sounding, but the melodies are most definitely pop oriented and they speed along with a nu-wave feel and an almost chillwave flow. (it’s awesome summer music!!!) so anyway, their second album came out in 2009 and was even more well received. that same year, the band fell apart due to personal problems with nathan and eventually ryan left. nathan then recruited drummer billy h ayes and bassist stephan pope who previously played with Jay Retard before he passed away, and this collaboration resulted in the band’s most recent full length, King Beach.
so there’s that then... and enough with the mellowing about!!! the music is all here, so grab these three albums now!!! first is the self titled debut, then we have the second album, Wavvves, with is almost another self titled, but with the exception of an extra “v” in the title. and lastly you will find the album, KingBeach which i think is the bands best effort to date. it seems more focused with better song writing and pop melody, so check it out with much speed and jam “post acid” on repeat until your mind goes crazy. GET HAPPY!!!
it's the holiday people!!! a time when we must relax and enjoy ourselves. i'm still here and trying to quickly make this post before i go back to the same powwow i was at last night. i'm in such a jolly mood that the music must match it!!!
and for that matching music, here's a band i recently saw and loved instantly!!! Transit.
transit is a young pop punk/hardcore band from new jersey who are making huge leaps in the current punk underground. they will instantly bring to mind bands like, Set Your Goals, Daggermouth, Caleb Lionheart, Lifetime, Saves The Day and New Found Glory. it's fast and emotionally honest music that's leaps and bounds above most recent bands to date. i just love this stuff!!! it's so awesome to have music that's uplifting and fun at the same time.
i'm currently posting their entire discography minus their sneaky and hard to find self titled demo. so first thing we have is the ep called, Let It Out. this is then followed by their first full length titled, This Will Not Define Us. after that we then come to my personal favorite which is the ep called, Stay Home. and then, in last place, we have their brand spanking new full length titled, Keep This To Yourself. i've only heard a few songs from this, but those that i did were awesome, so check it out. heck, check everything out because it great stuff and you don't wanna be late to the game. dig it...

So many days and nights of my life escape. It always fades away with time. (The color fades away) It's this feeling that has me going nowhere, gaining nothing at all. last nights show was so awesome!!! of course though, i stood the entire time and didn’t get involved in the moshy stuff, but that’s okay because i’m sort of past that young demeanor anyhoo. i mean, if the circumstance were a bit more engaging for me, and if i knew all the freekin’ lyrics, AND if it wasn’t a work night, i most likely would have joined in the hardcore sing a longs and pile ups, but in this case, i stood to the side and observed the bands demonstrating their talents and giving good performances to a crowd of 50 or so on an oklahoma wednesday night. let’s see, i believe there was a total six bands that played, with the two opening slots going to some local acts. i must have got there for the second band, because right after they finished the band, Transit, came on and really impressed me. i’ve had their second ep for a little while and i have to say, their much better live than on record. the lead singer showcases a wide range of emotional styles and really gets into his vocal performance. the rest of the group is equally as talented and what amazed me so much from these guys is how young they were. of course with this sort of pop punk/hardcore mish mash, you’d figure the bands were all full of young kids, and that is almost true. these young guys presented a mature workmanship that proves how much they care about their art. it wasn’t sloppy and mailed in. instead it was inspirational and left me wanting more. keep a lookout for these guys because they should be, and hopefully will be, huge.
now, as for the other bands, Man Overboard were decent, but by the time they came on the stage i was wanting to go outside and write some notes on a few bands back in my car. (i usually take notes on artists to check out based on concert peoples opinions and t-shirts…) so yeah, i missed just about their entire set, but by the time i came back in The Swellers were setting up and it was exciting to feel the tension. (at least in my stomach…) i’ve wanted to see them since i first listened to their ep, Beginning of the End, so this was my moment. after what seemed a short time, they began their set, tearing and shredding through a good portion of their catalogue, but with more focus on their recent full length, Ups and Downsizing. they even threw in a Lagwagon cover, so yeah, it was jawesome!!!
oh, and last but not least was Fireworks. i can’t believe i stayed for just about their entire show. nothing against them, it’s just that i such an unbelievably hard person to wake in the morning, so i knew that staying out late would effect my thursday work performance. anyway, i managed to stick it out and it was pretty good none the less. the band gave a good performance and i can see how people really associate them as New Found Glory rip-offs. still, the music speaks for itself and the kids loved it. the band had the biggest reaction of the night and i believe this transitioned into them appreciating oklahoma and giving a good set instead of some sleepy/no care sort of thing.
all this is just the pre-warm up for what’s coming on saturday, september 11th. on that day, The Conservatory will host New Found Glory!!! i still can’t believe this is happening!!! i have always dreamt of seeing these guys play a small club such as this, and with the opportunity finally here, it’s become a reality. i already got my ticket, and i know the place will be more packed than a welfare office, so i need to get there at a good time. it’s gonna be zoppity!!!
so, what music do i feel like posting on right now??? i’ve been thinking on it for most of the day and while doing that, i scrolled through my ipod and came across the band, Moneen. i think they’ll do the trick…
moneen are a five piece indie/emo rock band from brampton, ontario, canada that formed in 1999. (they got bigfoot’s up in Canada…) they are one of canada’s best bands, along side other acts like, Billy Talent, Alexisonfire, Broken Social Scene, Metric, Stars and Barenaked Ladies. they are currently signed to emo powerhouse, Vagrant, records here in the us and have toured with many artists from that label. i had the opportunity to see them at warped tour back in 2006, but passed because of a conflicting schedule with the band, Thursday. (i don’t regret that decision. i love thursday…) time passed and another chance came this past year in oklahoma, but the show was cancelled.
for me, moneen represent the best aspects that have come about in the first ten years of the new millennium. this is still my least favorite decade in music, but i’m not so ignorant as to write off everything completely. like i said, the band represent the best parts of this wave of music and style. (indie/emo) they seem sincere and energetic, as well as lovers for what they do. i can tell this just from the first notes from whatever song i hear by them. it’s genuinely good stuff and i think tons more artists need to take notice of this kind of workmanship and respect for the craft.
yeah yeah, enough with my nit-picking. let me swing for the fences by trying my best to post their entire discography for you all today!!! moneen have made a great disco of music over these past 12 years or so, and it's something worth checking out. our first item up for grabs is their debut ep titled, Smaller Chairs for the Early 1900's. we then move to their first full length called, The Theory of Harmonial Value and it's an amazing effort and the band is only getting started from there!!! next is the album, Are We Really Happy with Who We Are Right Now? and it proves to be their next plateau. after that comes a quick little split with alexisonfire called, The Switcheroo Series: Alexisonfire Vs. Moneen. now we come to my personal favorite release by the band and it's an album called, The Red Tree. this is then followed by the acoustic ep Saying Something You Have Already Said Before: A Quiet Side of Moneen and then another ep titled, Hold That Sound. and lastly, we finally come to their most recent release which is the album called, The World I Want To Leave Behind. moneen add another collection of albums and songs worth your time and i really hope you check it out. toodles!!!
