Intuition...

so, a brand new season of South Park started tonight and overall it was great fun. the usual nonsense humor that the series is known for was taken with an easy stride this time, what with the subject of male sex addiction and celebrity scandals, as the bait on the hook. it reeled me in from the get-go with tiger woods and his wife slugging it out like it was marvel vs capcom. this had me rollin' on the floor!!! it was terrible and seriously funny at the same time. finally, a tiger woods pga golf game taken to the next level!!! (you have to watch it to know what i mean...) while not as good as last seasons' first episode, The Ring, this one is funny and a good start. i have been with this series ever since it's debut back, in like 96 or 97, and it's been getting better and better ever since. some might say it topped itself a few seasons back, but never mind that. i still love it and hope that it will continue for as long as it can. it beats the crapsons and family douche by thousands of miles anyway!!! :P

once in a while, a new artist will emerge that quickly gets my attention for what they are doing in music. i have one to mention right now for ya!!! it's a young woman who goes by the name of, Lonelady.



you are reading it here from me, so i'm calling it right now. this gal is gonna make it. her music is totally awesome and it relishes in the classic styles of post-punk and nu-wave. she comes from manchester, england and has been making her own music since 2005. at first it was just her and a drum machine. using a 4 track recorder, she started making her own demos and these got her a lot of attention. she was invited over here to play in the annual, sxsx (south by southwest) in austin, texas in 2006. after that she released the single, "army/intuition" which garnered her radio play in her home country. in 2009 she signed to warp records and last month of this year, her debut album, Nerve Up, was released.

Nerve Up, is a wonderful debut album with great, dancy, post-punk songs that scream out with amazing talent. this was a surprise for me, for sure. i haven't been this surprised by a debut recently since The XX released their debut back in 2009. when listening, i heard many artists that have come and gone and are still here. there's sprinkles of, Gang of Four, The B52's, DEVO, Joy Division, The Slits and Siouxie and The Banshees. like i said, this is great stuff and one not to miss. be ahead of the class and rub it all into the faces of your hipster friends. check out, lonelady NOW!!!

Needs Fixin'...

i didn't want to post today. i'm not feeling that well. but, putting my emotions and feelings about EVERYTHING in my life aside, i guess it's okay to quickly and quietly post something now. it's been a tough day...

here is something to battle your eardrums. this band is called, A Place to Bury Strangers.



this little indie band formed in 2003 in brooklyn, new york and have been garnering intense critical praise and fans since. they play very loud, abusive shoegaze/psychedelic/lo-fi/indie rock that blasts out with so much force, it can possibly cause your bowels to loosen!!! also mix in a little post-punk and nu-wave and you got a good idea i guess. ssssssssoooooooo shortly after forming, the band played several local shows, one of them opening up for The Brian Jonestown Massacre and another opening up for their heroes, The Jesus and Mary Chain. these shows made them become the local it band, and it even got them the tag of, new york's "loudest band".

the band then signed a quick contract with some person and released their self titled debut which received a favorable review from Pitchfork and thus, they blew up. during this time, the band would see themselves opening up for artists like, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Nine Inch Nails. it's 2010 now and the band had recently released their major label debut, Exploding Head. it's a crushing album that will bombast all your senses and put a hurt on your speakers. try these out and see, or better yet, listen for yourself!!!

what to do, what to do...

Burn, Oklahoma, Burn...

it's finally sunday, just like any other sunday, but for today, it's a special time because in exactly 50 minutes, the premiere episode of HBO's, The Pacific, starts!!! this is going to be interesting to see. i'll post my own, sort of, review of the first episode and let you all know my opinion on it, if that is of any interest to you. oh, and as for the ending thoughts on my last post, that last thing i mentioned...well let's just say that i'm still considering it and still doing some really HEAVY thinking on it. time will only tell if it's a good decision for me. lot's of praying to do...

okay, so let's speed things up a bit with some digital hardcore. here is, Atari Teenage Riot.



this fab four started in 1992 and went on until about 2000. it was just mentioned that they were getting back together this year to play again, so that's what made me think of them. so, this, uh, band or group, make digital hardcore techno. it's just what it sounds like. it blends elements of hardcore punk and electronic music into this one exploding package, and let me tell ya, atari teenage riot do it the best. (in my opinion of course!!!) the movement started in berlin, germany where the band hails from. there are also elements of rock/pop/indie/thrash and industrial included in their music. you just have to dig a little deeper to notice. the band is highly political, where as they fuse the ideals of anarchy, anti-fascist and anti-nazi views into their lyrics, all with a great punk mix. this is pretty brutal music to be considered, electronic or techno, but it somehow all works. plus it's pretty cool to jam when playing a really fast racing game, or other activities with high strung ordeals...yep.

so, like i mentioned, the band broke up in 2000 and after the death of member, carl crack from an overdose, it seemed unlikely that they would ever perform again. one of their last shows was opening for Nine Inch Nails. it's noted about how, at the end of that show, the band left the stage with a wall of sound that left many confused and sickly due to the harshness of their presence and volume. heh heh

right here are the two albums you need by the group. first is the compilation album, Burn, Berlin, Burn!. this album contains tracks from the groups first two releases and was america's first real foray into the groups digital hardcore style. and second here, is the album, 60 Second Wipe Out. this was their last release and it showcases a much more focused, yet rougher version of their already outlandish style. it closes the gap until the group starts making new music, which hopefully, will start happening soon. (one song has already been released!!!)

Bollocks...

well, today is a sort of sad day for me. yesterday i got the official letter from OSU saying that they didn't want me for their graduate school program in creative writing. this is the second school to deny me and even though there are many out there who have applied way more than me, this still stings. i really wanted to go there. for one, it's only about an hour and a half away plus it's in my home state. also, it seemed that the program was going to meet all my needs. the things i wanted to do in a graduate study program. the letter said i didn't showcase enough, "readiness" in my portfolio. i guess that's a nice way of saying, "you're not good enough." ugh, i don't know if that's the case, but i can't help but feel really disappointed with myself... i have no clue as to what to do with now. the only thing that comes to mind as an option is joining the armed services. they would want me right???

ugh, since i'm bummed right now, i guess i want some bummer music. or better yet, some post-punk styled music from, The National.



this band comes from, ohio and new york, and have been making their own style of music since 1999. first starting out with a sort of americanna style with influence from Bruce Springsteen, they self released a self titled album and got some attention from the indie labels. after another full length album, the band began to garner much critical acclaim and with that was also the sort of change into the nu-wave/post-punk revival in the early 2000's. they are often compared to classic acts like, Joy Division, The Chamelions, and Echo & the Bunnymen, but for today's current scene, they are lumped in with bands like, Interpol, The Editors, Bloc Party, The Killers and Franz Ferdinand.

today i have two albums from the national. these are the one's which made them big in the underground, and helped the band travel and play many more shows all across the world. first is the album titled, Alligator. after that we come to the high praised and most popular album by the band called, The Boxer. this is a truly awesome album and one not to miss if you are into this sort of thing. also below you will find the art for their newest album titled, High Violet. i don't have the link for this one, so it's up to you to search for it when it drops sometime in may. now get out of here and have a better day than me...

here is the new video for the song, "rocket skates" from the Deftones. this song comes from their new album, Diamond Eyes, which drops may, 18th 2010. this song is pretty freeking sweet and it encompasses all the bands dramatic traits. it's like old school Around the Fur style mixed with the dream-pop dynamics of their White Pony era. i can't wait for this album!!!

We're back, a schuyler story...

yeah, so i'm back home now. my dad is currently sitting in the armchair, watching crappy television and hurting with shoulder pain. surgery is a nasty thing. i'm glad i didn't have to go through it.

okay, so it's been a little fuzzy these past few days, but all is well. i'm currently jammin' some awesome electronic music, so it's something i want to post on. here is, The Future Sound of London.



once again, this is going back to the 90's. mxtxvx used to have this totally awesome show called, AMP, and it was usually on real late at night. it showcased sooooooo many awesome electronic acts for several hours. the future sound of london happened to be one of them. electronic music burst through in the 90's and has evolved so much over the years since. FSOL were one of the pioneers, and every album they release is upgrading the electronic genre. this duo, consisting of garry cobain, and brian douglas, hail from manchester, england. they work in many of the electronic sub-genre's, such as ambient, techno, trip-hop, drum n' bass and dance.

today you will find three of their albums. this is all from the best of their 90's work. and for a heads up, I'M TERRIBLY SORRY FOR HAVING TO USE RAPIDSHARE!!! okay, so the first thing to check out is the album, Lifeforms. this is a double album of experimental ambient techno. it's probably their most famous work and is a masterpiece of electronic music. next is the album, ISDN, followed by the album, Dead Cities. both of these are totally awesome and contain some, still fresh beats. check out the song "amoeba" from ISDN, and the songs, "my kingdom" and "we have explosive" from, Dead Cities. enjoy!!!

Splitsville...

my dad had surgery done on his left shoulder today. as of right now, he's pretty out of it. i'm currently at the house getting him some supplies for his stay at his mothers. i'm going to keep this a short one for now and also letting you all know that i might not be posting for a few days. hopefully i can find a moment or so to post tomorrow and the next day, but i'm not promising anything right now. i gotta stay close to my dad and help him out. i picked up the book, The Old Breed, written by Eugene Sledge. it's his memoir on the marine battles at pelieu and okinawa during WWII in the pacific. it's part of the basis to the HBO series, The Pacific. the book is arguably one of the best books written about combat. it details the point of view coming from an infantry man and not the upper command. let's see how it goes shall we???

okay, for the music it's a split. first is the wonderful split album by the 90's emo bands, Boys Life and Christie Front Drive. the song, "valentine" by CFD is elegant and perhaps their best song ever. the second album is the split by 90's emo bands, Texas is the Reason and The Promise Ring. the song, "blue boy" is my favorite track on the split. it's by TITR. sssssoooooooo, with that enjoy these quick little splits and keep on truckin'...
