All Star Me...

sunday was a good day. i went to bed the night before feeling bad about some personal things and woke the next day ready to have a blast and enjoy life. it was my cousin micco's b-day, so me and him and his mom and my grandma went to eat mexican after church. needless to say, we got stuffed!!! i dont know, it was just a good day and i can't ask for anything more...well i wish some things in my family were better, but despite those circumstances all was well. ha ha, this is making me think of some old times i've had with my cousin. here is a picture for you to see of us.

i'm guessing i was about one or close to two and micco was probably six or seven. ha ha oh man...

good times for sure. i like it when we all get together and there is nothing to worry about. you know, no drama rama lama sludge that likes to seep through the cracks of our lives and try to make us hate and purge with bile that comes from deep down...i'm just happy and when i'm happy, i feel alive and grateful.

so since i'm in a good mood how about some upbeat music for once??? this band is called Saves the Day. melodic hardcore that you can also just call pop punk if you want. this is my favorite album of theirs called Through Being Cool. get this music on your mp3 players and learn the lyrics and sing along!!!

This isn't the way we planned

I wasn't supposed to forget your taste
Like nights spent figuring all the ways that we came to this place
There we were alone on top of your old rooftop in Highland Park
But ask me now..
Say, "Chris look out across the sky and tell me which way the wind blows."
A core of coal
A core of coal and starches in within me
But even now that you're not here
I climb these mountains of houses every night
I say your name and I wish
I could have done things right

The wild night is calling...

i was nostalgic last night. i watched An American Tail for a little bit online. this took me back to my childhood. i remember seeing this movie when i was a child. my parents took me i think. i have fond memories of having the videotape and watching this movie a lot before i started kindergarten. living during the 80's in oklahoma was different i suppose. of course i didn't know what other places were like since i never left the state until i was much older. i just assumed we all lived in the same spot. i think back and remember seeing things i didn't understand at the time. it's best that i didn't know then. just try to figure out what's wrong with drunk people in your house. try to figure out what your parents are fighting over. why is there blood??? why are there beer bottles in the yard??? why didn't he or she come home last night???

despite all of that, i was still a child and i had my own experiences. of course i went through a bunch of trauma, and yes it did make me slightly different from other children, but i still had some fun doing my own thing. i liked legos and dinosaurs. i loved watching all three starwars movies back-to-back and i first started my long relationship with music which was always there.

my mother played lots of different things. i loved them all except for Guns n' Roses which i personally still hate everything about. i remember hearing The Beatles, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Marvin Gaye, The Band, and U2. My dad would play stuff like Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Bruce Springsteen, Rush (ugh...) and U2 (again!!!). so yeah, i grew up with good music for the most part. it wasn't until i was older that i branched off and began my own feelings towards music. despite that, i fondly remember this music i grew up with. one artist i love now and loved back then is Van Morrison. mom played this guy a ton. here for you to jam are three albums. first is Atral Weeks and then Moondance and last is Tupelo Honey.

All the who's are here, but the why's are unclear...

i slept all day today. that isn't surprising to anyone who knows me personally. my sleeping habits are a bit shuffled, or better yet, just plain ridiculous!!! (ha ha :P) i can't seem to shut off as well as others. i remember my roommate in college. that guy could go right to sleep when his head hit the pillow. i was never that fortunate unless i totally exhausted myself somehow during the day. i never exercised and i was never a health nut when it came to food. i ate sporadically which caused me to loose a lot of weight and, well, i actually liked that...

i even slept at work...

uh huh, well the music to mention this time is a band that only released an ep and lp, both of which are self titled efforts. this band pretty much defined the math rock/twinkly sound of emo music from the 90's that is making a comeback in the underground today. the band is American Football.

i just love their music so much. it reminds me of summer, but also of those times when we are alone and thinking about life's problems and such. plus, if you need something a bit smoother and more calm right before you go to sleep, then i highly recommend these guys.

The poet i never was...

i got the temp job. hopefully i won't become like Ryan from the office...lol well last night was surprising for me. after only a few texts i now have some old pictures that were taken by my ex girlfriend a few years ago when she came back to oklahoma with me for a powwow. they are really nice and i was reminded of a very special time in my life. but anyway, that's all done and over with. it was just cool and really out of no where which i like when that sort of stuff happens and it's a good thing and not bad.

i really like this pic here. she made me look cool for one moment!!!

okay, so the music is some more screamo/skrams for ya. these guys are legendary and like most screamo bands, shortly lived. they were called, Saetia.

they have a power that just bleeds through the speakers. the singer screams very spastic like and when you first hear it you might think he's in pain, which he actually might have been. theres also spoken word and emo singing, all mixed together rather beautifully and arranged for those intense buildups that this genre has become known for. this album is called A Retrospective and it contains their entire discography. you have it all here, so enjoy and let the emotions speak up.

"Close my eyes
Pull my heart strings
Pour my tears from your hands
connections are never easy,
You said empty words
Empty soul
I believe that we are afraid of one another
And I,
I believe that you have died within me
... I fade from myself
I miss you again
I fade from myself
I miss you again...
again (what have we got?)
Bloody broken and hidden away
I seek the rope from which we will hang
Or so it seems
Or so it seems
The dance of flesh on flesh has rendered us blind
I look into eyes,
I look into stone
It's better to be stepped on than left all alone...
So now I choke on yesterday when I was someone
And I wonder where 'forever' went
And how our 'everything' came undone
I opened my eyes and the heaven beneath us died."

A simple twist of fate...

strange times we live in. strange times for sure. i can't predict anything and i'm glad for that. nothing would happen in it's mysterious ways if that was the case. for instance, i never know when someone might call or text me. i have no control over that. i can't predict when someone thinks of me either. i sometimes wonder if anyone is thinking of me at the moment. what is it that reminds them of me??? i have had a lot of experiences in my life. some times i try to forget them and others i think too much about. i'm still picking up the pieces that broke off me from the past year. i'm almost complete. it's just those funky shaped ones that i'm trying to figure out...

this music post is relatable as much as the other ones i rant about. this one is Bob Dylan and my personal favorite album of his which is Blood on the Tracks. this was an album of reflection. he wrote this shortly after his marriage failed and with that comes a very strong personal lyrical telling that is pretty much naked in it's pure straightforward honesty. you don't get music like this that often. Becks album Sea Change comes to mind, but that is for another post...Just listen to Bob sing his heart out on tracks like "Simple twist of fate" and "Shelter from the storm". you can feel his pain, but also his love. you can't ask for more...

Better Dayz...

yes, i feel better now. as a friend has told me, the tides have turned. i got an interview on thursday for a temporary job doing office work. it has something to do with that whole "cash-for-clunkers" thing. i guess we will see what happens and hopefully i can get this job BECAUSE I FREEKIN' NEED IT!!! AAAAAAUUUGGGHGHHHGHGHGH...

anyway the music needs to be a bit more uplifting, so here for you to space out with is The Field. this guy makes minimalistic techno which is the best way i can describe his style. you just have to listen to it. it's like he took a step back and turned dance music on its head and re-created it with as much space as he could. not like all forms of electronic music needed a kick in the eye anyway, right??? so for this post you get his first and best album From Here We Go Sublime. My favorite track is the last which is the title song. this guy mashes up a sample from the old doowop group The Flamingos and their hit song "I only have eyes for you" and it's such a great mash that you are left wondering what the heck just happened. it's also funny, but i assume this song was made as a joke in order to mess with those still would be ravers out there.

i do feel better and my mood is wayyyyyyyyyyy to sporadic to just have it be the same all the time...

September Baby...

i didn't get the job. even though i qualified for it, they gave it to someone else... right now i totally feel defeated. i'm really tired and depressed (again...) i don't like it when i'm in this state, so i'm gonna go to sleep for a little bit and try to feel better later. i need to find a job somewheres...

life is throwing me a bunch a curves at the moment. i can't seem to hit any. it's like i'm becoming a statue or something. i can't seem to move at all and i don't have any desire or energy to do much. i'm not in the best of places now...also the month is now September which brings with it something i can't seem to care about anymore.

ugh, forget it. here, listen to this guy and ignore my stupid words. he goes by the name Burial and this is his second album Untrue.
